Aym I was thinking of having next year off too...the dahlias were too much work and more disappointment. Definitely having next year off from sunflowers!! Grew too many of those too, not realising all seeds would sprout and it's been soooo much work staking them, dealing with snapped ones etc.
Hazel was your star dahlia magenta star? that's one I think I want to get next year if I do miraculously to enter the dahlia malarkey ever again...
I've given up sunflowers too, often don't germinate, slugs eat them and if they grow they need staking. Sowed some expensive dwarf ones a couple of years ago and nothing came up. Don't understand it, the French fields here are full of them! Grow annual rudbeckias instead, lots of different varieties too.
I will grow more dahlias next year, they make splashes of colour at times when other things have finished or not out yet. There is such a variety of shape and colour and they are so easy to grow from seed.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
aym280 thanks so much for the lovely comments on the snaps. Just resized a few more photos, do you know the limits of the size of photos you can post here?
