It's somebody di chioggia . It was recommended by chiltern seeds as the best ornamental. I couldn't be bothered eating artichokes. It's extremely hardy and not invasive in my clay
That's early for cosmos to finish. Some of mine haven't flowered yet and they all usually last to the frosts. Have you been deadheading them?
It's just a Panasonic lumix aym. It's a few years old and I've just started using it again. Can't be bothered with online manual so I'm using trial and error
Sorry to but in hazel, but I had one of those last year. It will probably turn out to have flowers the size of dinner plates - literally. I had one last year. It was gross, but my husband loved it. I gave it away this year to someone who would appreciate it.
Thanks so much for the warm welcome aym280. I have been lurking and reading here for a while, picking up a few tips as gardening is very new to me. The friendly forum was what made me join, it seems much more of a community than other sites. I have realy enjoyed viewing everyones garden photographs and I am in awe of many of the wonderful spaces I have seen here.
Hazel re your dahlia, I was new to dahlias this year and am having a similar experience of disappointment. But I always thought people wanted massive dahlia blooms?
I bought 3 mix packs really cheap and ended up with about 20 tubers, not realising that there were so many in each pack!! Also as I was new I didn't think they would all grow, but they did! Very vigorously!
As B3 said it a bit of a lottery. I have 8 still to flower which are all growing massive leaves but I thought that was for all dahlias!. Not all of them were as I expected. There was one called 'fireworks semi cactus' which has very hard woody stems with a very messy huge flower, but some people have seen it and liked it. I couldn't believe how hard the stem was. Then there's one called Crazy Love which might be a dinnerplate one. That had two tubers - one plant is smaller and one is a huge bush with massive leaves and sparse but big flowers. The photo showed it has a pink tinge but mine more white. I am disappointed but my mum loves it. Then someone gave me what they said was Bishop of Llandaff but it's turned out to be Bishop of Dover I think as it's cream and I thought the flower would be bigger on that but it's tiny!! So that was another disappointment. I'm just going to wait and see what happens with the unopened ones but next year I want to just order the varieties I want instead of the mix bags. The only ones I've liked so far are some small collarette dahlias which were in mix bag called 'Unwin dwarf mix'. Just wait and see cos maybe you might like them.
