What is your weather like?

  • Wet and windy here Verdun and it is still raining and perhaps showery tomorrow. A few tall Rudbeckias ( called Rustic Dwarf but there is nothing dwarf about them as they are approx 1 metre tall) are struggling in the wind so I may lose them, but the hollyhocks tied to the trellis are taking the wind very well. At least the water butts are now full to overflowing, so they will be good to use for a week or two.

  • As children we had a pine cone tied with string to the roof of the shed - when pine cone was open it was sunny, when closed it was raining - everything was so simple back then.  Now they have expensive satellites and technical equipment and still they can't get the weather forecasts right. However I will take your word for it Verdun and look forward to drier weather again!

I'm not saying it's Wintry here but there are dead leaves stuck to my window by rain! image

It's ok...things have improved no end. The rain is now washing the dead leaves back off the windows! I'm thinking "localised flooding". It really is torrential!

Here in Newark (Notts, not New Jersey) it's been relatively dry.  Last night's "rain" added about one-eighth of an inch to the water butt level but it did soften the soil sufficiently for me to attack one big border.  However, the relatively breezy day has played havoc once again with the baskets and other containers, so lots of dead-heading of sad, droopy surfinias.  Having said that, I'm just grateful that I could get outside today as we did get some sunshine and reading some of the other posts, I think we may just be in a little micro-environment of our own over here!image
