we finally got key... though it doesn't work...and we got it while kids were sick, then we went away..luckily a nice snap 'broke' in by untwisting wire, grqass 2foot high, luckily our lovely neighbours gave us strimmer, hedgtrimmer and wheelbarrow for nominal sum..all great except.. badly sprained my wrist in my own garden sat so spaent all morning in a&e yesterday, in a heavy strap now so won't be doing much for at least a weeK!goodness could much else stop me?
I'm thinking of entering the veg section at The Great Eccleston Show. Haven't done anything like that before and me thinks it could be a challenge. It's not till 6/17-Jul....I've peas, onions, rubard, gooseberries and some other stuff which might be good to go.
Do you think I could enter some chucney made 2 years ago...
Zoomer you could enter them as long as you made them, it is a something worth doing , I am thinking about entering a show this year guild book in allotment shop on weekend
Rosemummy not nice on the wrist, hope you get the key sorted good lot of tools you have got
Been to the allotment today and done some weeding, looks better some of seeds sown have nicely germinated spotted a interesting furry caterpillar, my potatoes have started flowering - the weeds have grown a bit with the wet weather we have been having - harvested lettuce and strawberries
Garden show had a nice look around Friday got a few bits then on Sunday as went for a two day pass - came away with quite a few plants some were great bargains as they sell plants cheaper, planted one basket and have planted a herb basket
hello all am genuinely worried how we're going to start at allotment, the wrist/thumb was so bad because i have arthritis in my thumb joints and at the moment I'm struggling to do anything except the very basics, I can't imagine how I'll handle strimmer etc or do much digging, I'll be a real lightweight, I can't even pot a few little plants up at the moment, tomatoes desperate to go in big pots but can't do it, am feeling really really down as gardening is the thing that helps me stay upbeat, if I' stuck inside I have a real tendency to get depressed and anxious, I'm being really crap at the moment, sorry
Let the association know what's happened rose mummy and tell them about your arthritis. I found them really understanding last year when taken ill very suddenly in March 2015. I came down with meningitis and viral something or other. When I came out of hospital I couldn't walk more than a few yards without the aid of a stick or being in pain and still have double vision and thought I'd never get better. The plot has been part of my recovery, I'm back at work now but it was something to focus on and kept me busy.
Haven't been to the plot other than to water this week. Plan to go today, happy growing everyone...
Thanks scroggin and zoomer, think am going to pay my brother to strip and just see what under grass next weekend, once we can see it,s safe I can go up with the children, I will tell them at the association, I,ve had a bit of pain in my thumb joints for years, but last weekend I badly sprained my ,good, hand literally couldn't,t fasten my clothes, tie my hair up, change a nappy...that eased after a few days but ,bad, hand is painful, just affects me so much not being able to ,do, I had horses for years ( probably why my body is wrecked) just need help to clear ( there did seem to be a lot of black plastic somewhere under lots of the plot) then hope I can do a bit, want to move some stuff we have here to their, fruit and flowers
rosemummy, better still if you have some black plastic. You could try asking your brother to strip, it may impress the association but I'd be inclined to ask him to do something more practical like strim the plot
Been to the plot today, did some weeding and planting out. The plot is beginning to fill out with veg now, providing lots of ground cover to keep down the weeds. Harvested rubarb, strawberries, spinach, mangetout, potatoes, globe artichokes, onions and some herbs.
Went to Gardeners World Live on Friday. Came home with a scarecrow and lots of seeds. It was a lovely day out.
Gg, I'm being very optimistic about showing stuff, for instance courgettes which I'd like to show only have about four leaves on them, will they be ready by 15/16th July , gooseberries are ready to pick now, will some be OK to leave on the plant till then and I'd struggle to find 3 sticks of rubarb, straight and the same length LOL. It's all good fun though .
