Asparagus roots are not invasive but quite shallow , so you have to be careful weeding , I always weed by hand , should be ok in dapple shade

Don't forget be careful in havesting for first 2 years , to allow it to build up its strength image

    Best of luck

It's forcast showers here tomorrow and the wind is picking up too.

Spent about an hour yesterday sowing seeds, onions are now in modules and I've started more seeds off on kitchen roll, something of an experiment as I've some old seeds and wasn't sure if they'd germinate, I've quite alot which need to be sown this year.

Went to the allotment plot yesterday and done some more cutting back of the brambles at the end of the plot, filled 1 bag of rubbish from within the brambles and had another bonfire, it was a really nice sunny day just had to keep coat on to stop getting prickled so much - bit hot in that

Today the weather was blowing a lot, I went to the allotment shop and ask a few things to what the pile of bits were at the end of the building suddenly piling up spoke to the site Rep - as yesterday I spotted a wheelbarrow there and site rep said I could have it - so now have a wheelbarrowimage  not too bad brought home to mark up so that will not go walkies and to spray metal

Carried on cutting the brambles for a few hours even in the wind we were wrapped up, cleared out lots of the metal rubbish as the pile near the building of the shop is for the scrap people to collect and I was allowed to add bits to it so that has helped

Zoomer44 weather wet here tomorrow too, need to sow some of my sweet peas on kitchen roll as think some may not germinate as to old seeds, may try with the broad beans as well

    Happy Easter!

I wish I had a wheelbarrow! But a neighbour lets me borrow his, which is very kind of him.

The weather was so lovely here yesterday and I didn't get a chance to get to the plot. image I managed to get the beds for the strawberries cleared out today, though. I'd put the strawberry crowns in a planter - if I plant them out before I get a chance to get some of these copper-coated strawberry mats, do you think they'll get eaten by slugs? I've got some woolen pellets that are supposed to deter slugs, but I've yet to order the mats.

Aster2 my strawberries are on the plot looking ok  - do the strawberry mats have a slit in them that you could put around  the plants after you have planted them?

That is kind of your neighbour, I am kind of tidying up the bit off my plot need to sort the plot yet

Thanks, Gardengirl, that's good to know. I think the mats do have a slit - if not, I can always cut them.

It's such hard work getting to grips with an overgrown plot, isn't it. But we shall persevere and it will be worth it! image
