  • Actually did some fun gardening today, instead of the sulking and scheming I've been doing for the last few weekends...

Planted up an extension I made to the triangle bed on the 'lawn' side. From elsewhere in the garden I moved verbena b seedlings, allium sphaero, lythrum (Robert, I think), campanula glomerata, a white vernonia, various tall blue scabious and a phlox and Schizostylis I had sat in pots.

Only need one new plant, a Thalictrum Elin, I think.

Then moved a few polemoniums, a miscanthus, Sanguisorba and golden rod to various better places and decided to quit while I was ahead and veered too far from The Plan.image

It was raining on and off here most of the morning. I got two hours outside this afternoon doing a bit of hoeing dead heading and tying in my clematis montana to cover more gaps in the leylandii stumps.

I did this about four weeks ago but a miracle happened and the  neighbours at the bottom of our garden decided to cut down their leylandii by about 5ft. They are now only about 11ft from the ground on my side. which I can nearly reach on the ladder and my hubby can easily reach.

Seeing five feet more  of the sky light makes our garden so much lighter.

For some strange reason I really like tying in clematis, give me a ball of green garden twine and I am as happy as Larry.

Spent four hours in the garden this morning and did two hours work.

the Billy goat brush cutter is hard work and I no longer have the strength to use it for more than one hour at a time.

planted two purple leaved shrubs, holes dug yesterday and left full of water to soak overnight.

sat and watched rats and squirrels feeding as well as blue tits, great tits chaffinches and dunnocks.

i am just beginning to learn that you are allowed to sit and enjoy the results of you labour.
