Wintersong; That's just a few there are large shrubs and small trees, lots of bulbs, and other stuff each border is 62Mts long and 6.2Mts deep they are being planted in one hit with everything spring summer autumn and winter plants.
We took advice from the RHS and National Trust and both suggested we do it this way as trying to plant at the "correct time" would just not work you would be forever digging up dormant plants and treading on new stuff so it's all going in at the same time.
We have taken out 150mm of the top soil dug down 600mm and enriched the soil, all by JCBs not hand the plants will be placed into the ground with 150mm exposed then we will back fill with the topsoil, the tree's and shrubs at the back are treated the same just a deeper trench.
If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.
Beautiful day 'working from home' (cough), managed to dig and prepare beds in front garden, took delivery of astrantias, aquilegias, hostas, imperata rubra, penstemon, Crocosmia - shame the order was missing the other aquilegias!
Planted out skimmia, kalmia Latifolia, moved asters, verbena and rudbeckia. Potted up 3 blueberries.
Wonderful day visit to GCgot 4lovely Lupins for front basket pots then b+q for some petunias then new store Home Bargains and got 3 Pom prom dahlia and 7 dwarf dahlia for 1.49 really g good tuba potted up and in the GH also got petunias jumbo plugs for hanging baskets all potted and planted. Prepared beds ready for growing patch never had one before but covered with cloche s to warm up ready to sow at the weekend found a 36 section tray in the GH the seeds are just popping up what a shame they don't have a label I must have thought I would remember what they were I'll pot them on then decide veg or flowers patch oops well they are not tomatoes as every pot has a label including a new one potted up today yellow stuffer sounds a good variety
A few lovely days here, and I've got some second-early tatties in, and various bits of clearing up done and more summer bulbs planted. Today was sun and clouds, and with a cold wind. A Clematis armandii is having problems and dropping leaves and I think it will have to come out (it was a 'rescue plant' to start with, and though it's grown it's never done very well).
We still have frosts here, though not forecast for tonight, so my new wee greenhouse is important - and my main gardening 'job' this week was getting the automatic vent opener installed, which took quite a bit of doing! It's now done, works, and I can relax about the greenhouse plants when I'm away, like this afternoon which was quite sunny here, though cold outside.
Loads of bulbs up all over the place, and the lovely crocuses are nearly over. The white ones seem to be later or longer lasting. I've advised the grass-cutting people to not cut yet!
we must have regular pics in future months /seasons
what an enormous effort and an enormous garden!
Mine's a mere 100ft and for the first time this year, I'm struggling for space, even when I plant close . No more plants for me unless it's a bulk buy of Verbascums or Echinacea since I'm lacking those and never get to the GC at the right time of year
I just moved my seed boxes from their temporary night site in the shed to the south facing wall of my house where I can get a lot of sun for about 10 hours (weather prevailing) I keep them in the shed overnight as there are a lot of foxes going about just now who nose about during the night, so I move them back and forth till I get my mini greenhouse next week... I also moved some of the slabs from my patio to the back wall where my Acers will reside out of the wind & sun.
No gardening for me today as the rain is pouring down. So I went to BnM a bargain store who sell three plants for £5. Bought from here before and all the plants are doing well. Today I got Salvia-Snowmound , Delphinium-Blue fountain dwarf ...never had a dwarf one before..and another new one for me Lysimachia. Looking forward to planting them in when this rain eventually stops. Hope your having a better gardening day than me
Also raining here today. I've got a few plants to plant in the soil and have also some wooden borders to paint that will match my shed that I have also painted. Does anyone grow anything in their shed? Mine doesn't get any sun really but I'd like to make use of it really seen as though it's empty

Did a lot of weeding and bluebell tugging.
Desperately trying to resist planting, sowing tender stuff just because it's one sunny day!

Productive
mulched some planters, removed the lower branches of some overhanging trees and cut , most of, the grass.
Got to 5.45 and realised I'd missed lunch.
Glorious sunny day.
