Finished the border that had been dug over yesterday, and then managed to dig the second one, too. Took it steadily - my back told me yesterday that I'd done enough. I was then able to place pots around where, roughly, they will be planted, and suddenly, from a horticultural desert, it shows the makings of a garden. Well pleased with it. Off to get lots of grit and (I hope) well rotted manure to dig into the soil before I plant. And then there's another border to be dug, greenhouse to be erected and summerhouse to be ordered. But what a lovely, lovely day it has been - sunshine and warmth that makes it all an absolute joy to be outside.
Not quite the day I'd planned but very busy. Went to the farm garden this morning. Tidied some flower beds/troughs then started weeding the raspberries. At 1 o'clock decided to head home for a short break before doing my own garden but as I called in the cafe to return my mug, I saw how busy it was so ended up helping out there 'till 4ish.
Did manage to do an hour when I got home. Cut back Bill Mackenzie and started on old golden hop stems. Now feel shattered.
Look after those joints Lovegardens. Are you new to the RA or have you had it for yonks ?
It has been lovely having a few sunny dry days .. Cold starts and even a few frosts but they disappeared very quickly.
I have done loads in the greenhouse, also went in the field to bag up some manure (daughter has horses) Lovely well rotted stuff for my veg patch. Veg patch still too wet to dig over, another day or two... unless it rains again Fingers crossed. Just lovely to get out there.
Very heavy snow in the mountains-6 ft. overnight-but nothing down here, just very windy.
Thousands of dutch crocus, lots of Pickwick, in bloom-nice.
The dahlias, which last autumn I dug and then left in a heap, were potted up the day after I got home a couple of weeks ago. Despite looking the very devil-withered and sere rather like self-they are sprouting so shall make a few cuttings.
Salad greens are up and going. Picked some volunteer, winter grown arugula for sandwiches.
Wintersong, what is your garden project this year?
It was a lovely day today. I sowed tomatoes and more broad beans in pots. And I sowed petunias, Cosmos Antiquity, and Didiscus. Then I did some pruning.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Brilliant weather here today in Dordogne. Dug over my wee veg patch but because we had two days of dry, I ended up lifting 6/30 litre buckets of stones from soil...(its clay). After two years of trying to sort it, it seems as bad. Anyway got some Kelvadon peas in, some more round carrots sown, beetroot. Brussels under cover and sorted out my strawberries.
I sowed some salad leaves today, and some microgreens.
Hostafan, that edging could do with some snowdrops. I can send you some later on in the year when they die down if you like. I just push the bulbs in gaps in the summer, the dying leaves get covered over later.

@David, for it to look morelike yours
I do have some landscaping to do at the very bottom of my garden, but there's no real ambition with that area, just to be more functional
today I tackled the one job I hate doing, tying in my rose over the arch, it was windy here but sunny and at least I am done with that now
This is the bed we mulched yesterday.
All the intentions were good but was aching too much to risk any more gardening so the last few jobs will just have to wait.
