Thanks BL for the links, I will certainly check them out. It's very difficult to find good plants down here, they are still very much stuck with their pelargoniums and begonias and don't like to try new plants. My French neighbour is always asking about the plants I grow but has never heard of a lot of them.
I grow self blanching celery very well here and try to show my neighbour that it has to be grown in blocks rather than straight lines, but she seems unable to follow!
Have been in garden this afties. Pruned the big grape vine, almost too late. Pruned the New Dawn rose and Rosa Complicata and 2 clematis. Princess Diana was making shoots under the tangle of stems, about 18ins from the ground, so that's where I cut her to, Group 3. OH has mown the flower garden lawn, looks so much better.
Will have to make a new rubbish tip for things like rose prunings. We always put them on the bonfire but the woman in the Mairie has told me that all garden bonfires have been banned in France. They say because of pollution.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hello all , afternoon in garden trimming tree on stream bank was a bit harder than I thought , will cut up all the wood eventually and burn on fire , just have a beer or 2 to recover
Talk of French gardens , went to a talk last week by Alan Mason at local garden club , he has done lots of English Gardens in France , including one which was covered on TV , I do like formal French gardens
Everyone still having bonfires down in our neck of the woods BL, we haven't been told of any ban! Maybe different regions/departments do their own thing? lol
Thanks BL, WS and FG. I think she's a bit too red for the spot I was thinking of. Burgundy would have been ok but there is a lot of pink in the vacinity and I'm not keen on red/pink colour combination. Beautiful clematis though.
Been putting together my new turning compost bin, hubby bought it and I'm already impressed with its sturdy design, the proper thing with cast iron frame and a very large bin
had to build it in the hallway though as Jake dumped a load of slurry on my garden justwhen I was going to build it on the patio
it's in two halves waiting for a drier day, does it count as gardening?

C'est la vie!
In fear of stereotypes, I read that the french don't quite get the way the English use perfectly good crop space for flowers
PS good luck BL et al
Thanks Wintersong.

I heard we were expecting rain so I braved the cold to cut my back lawn, it was hard work. First cut this year and it was freezing...
I am not going to be able to mow the front lawns now.. I think Spring has sprung so they say but its still pretty wintery here
