  • Very dark and wet this morning in Bristol.  such a change in the weather.  I have a streptocarpus that grows like topsy in my bathroom.  It does like the humidity there.  As does my African violet.    Looks like honing my lecture is on the cards for today.  At least in the morning.  The forecast is for the rain to go east by lunchtime.  Ah well the mind needs exercise as well as the body.

I'm sure your lecture will be very interesting Marion. You have such a wealth of knowledge.

Dry here but very strong wind.

I'm hoping to get few more things cut back as my two garden bins go out tonight. There are two clematis which have finished flowering and, at this time of year, I like to cut the bulk of the growth off.

  • Oh thank you so much Joyce for mentioning your clematis.  I had forgotten to put in a paragraph about the pronunciation of Botanical Latin in my lecture and clematis is such a good example.  Not that i mind how it is pronounced as I think it is correct enough if the listener understands you but I have heard so many people stumbling over the pronunciation of what they see on the labels it could be helpful to let them know the simple rules.

  • Oh my new red Michaelmas daisy has such lovely red flowers. the Little Pink Beauty too is pink and very floriferous - both good additions to my lovely white New England asters.  The hydrangea I bought for its red leaves in the autumn is colouring up too.  Bright sunshine  in Bristol now so garden is drying nicely and I have been able to get out working in it.

Good morning everyone!, woken up to blue sky this am but very fresh chill in the air, hopefully get my violas planted, I like to keep the colour going in our garden for as long as possibleimage

what are you upto today Marion? Lovely pictures by the way.

  • That is a lovely pattern and colours ,aym208!  Damp garden this morning and feels colder but the sun is shining now.  Green wheeliebin will be emptied today so will be dodging the rain forecast to fill it up again.  I have ordered a border fork for myself online as I find my big digging fork rather heavy now.  Old age does not come alone.

  • I think it is "Winston Churchill" that red aster.  It does have a yellow middle which does not show in the photo.  I found two labels but only aster was legible on them!  But "Winston Churchill " rings a bell.

Mario - re heavy fork and old age. . . . I get the heavy one into the ground and use the handle as support when climbing up the fairly steep terraces in the sunken area of garden.
