That is a little contour drain we made to take excess water away from the back of the house during downpours, which is below the photo, Marion.  It seems we are all experiencing strange weather. It's really crazy for us at the moment. We had the air conditioner going for days to help us cool down and now today, we have the heater on.

Our newspapers are reporting your amazing hailstones and heavy rain in the Snowy Mountains, Pat.  That looks like fast flowing water near your house.  Perhaps better not to have any vegetation for fear of blocking the drain?  Stay safe.

Thanks. marion. We're not in any danger at the moment. I think because we're fairly high, we are ok.  Same to you with your yellow warning.

We had a brief dry sunny spell when I dropped my book and hurried out to do some tidying but it is pouring again!  I will give the conservatory its Monday morning deadheading and watering where necessary.

They are on the internet, Verdun under The Secret Gardening Club and on request will email you their latest offer.  You can become a paid up member for a year for £9.99 which entitles you to a weekly offer list  (last two were six pages complete with pics of the plant in flower), free P& P, prices about a quarter of the same from a good nursery. plus 10% off on your bill.  Every plant I have had has been superb, every bulb top size, packing well done and ecologically friendly with wet paper substituted for plastic pots often.  I got quite a few of my Xmas presents from them - marvellous gardening gloves much reduced in price.  You can just buy for one week too to try them out.  Delivery is usually by Royal Mail or courier if a big order.  The company in charge is the Yorkshire Lavender Co which is a reliable company.  There is a phoneline and email to keep in touch and friendly advice and help.On joining you get the password and code for the 10% discount.  They are on FB too and have lots of gurus like Sarah Raven blogging for them.  Anyone can join.

How about this for instant gardening?  I potted up my giant Xmas present Amaryllis yesterday afternoon and have just looked and it has grown half an inch!  It is in my warm kitchen on one of the windowsills.

Amazing what a bit of TLC and warmth will do, Marion.
