You are welcome GWRS. Today is not so damp here in Bristol and forecast is for mainly dry sunny day so should get out in the garden more today not just the odd excursion to bring in tender plants. I do try to save as many as I can to brighten up the lounge for the winter as the conservatory opens on to it. Also a lot of my colourful pots are not frost hardy so they are safer brought indoors.
Hd to come in as it suddenly got cold and now quite heavy rain. but tired anyway. The second conservatory windowsill is now packed with plants. I should not need to any watering for a bit outside and the inside plants are kept on the dry side.
In my garden and conservatory today. Daylight hours will soon be scarce. Damp but sun shining now and looks like a good day ahead for gardening outside. though I may be tempted to bring in some tender plants again as it is the autumn equinox.
The season we have just experienced suited the Japanese Quince really well. I have never had such a big crop and some of the fruits are as big as Bramleys.
They make a delicious jelly either with apples or by themselves, Liriodendron. I shall take some for sale to the Macmillan coffee morning as I know we have some keen preservers in our community. Be careful of the thorns when picking your two fruits! I planted mine 52 years ago when the drinkers at our local pub now long gone were using our front garden as a toilet and litter bin. The thorns were enough to discourage them and of course the flowers which are non stop and like little red roses were an added bonus.

It got much colder and windier here too Marion and rain is expected later.
I managed to get two and half hours in the garden though as the carer is here until 3pm.
Lots of perennials cut back and some pruning done. Compost bin and garden bin well filled so I'm quite satisfied.
I'm thinking of lifting two small tuberous begonia and potting them up for the porch. Do you lift any for the conservatory?
Yes I do. Joyce. There is an orangey salmon one in a pot in my picture of the first windowsill above. It will go on flowering for weeks yet.

Do you use them for preserves, Marion? Mine has produced its first ever fruits this year - just a couple.
