These were superb plants from the Secret Gardening Club which I have a plant pass for the year for, Darren. They worked out at under £2 each and were big well grown plants in 9cm pots. Root system was splendid when I planted them out so i am very pleased. The variegated varieties look like good candidates for edge of woodland paths rather than in the borders but all seem to be good plants for attracting butterflies which was what attracted me to the genus in the first place as the plants in the Bristol Botanic Garden are in a shady part of the Pollination Garden and do just that.
An hour of intensive gardening and I have planted out my spent Xmas white hyacinths in amongst my wallflowers for next year, planted, three white hollyhocks in the butterfly border, picked and emptied a bucket of weeds into the green wheeliebin and harvested and potted up six cowslips plants from my woodland walk. I put one in the pretty container my hyacinths came in and gave them all a drink. Here is their picture. A rest for an hour then the next productive hour will be from 12 till lunchtime at 1. As long as the weather behaves i will be able to care for my huge garden just as I like it by using my "sensible for your heart" plan.
Morning Marion! Some years ago a friend gave me a seedling Polemonium caeruleum which in turn gave rise to many seedling plants. I love them and so do the insects, so I just move them around to where I want them if they're growing in an inappropriate place. I especially like the occasional blue-eyed white-flowered ones. Never had a really dark-leaved seedling though - maybe I should look out for 'Purple Rain' - it sounds lovely!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Foggy this morning in Bristol and only 5 degrees but forecast is for sunny and 14 degrees or more so hopeful. My nine new plants from Secret Gardening Club arrived yesterday,3each of Limonium platyphyllum, Oxalis adenophylla and queen Fabiola Brodiaea laxa potted bulbs. The bulbs I have put in the conservatory as the Yellow Cheerfulness are over now and the other six are ready to plant outside being wel grown plants.Night frosts are on the cards after the weelend so i may wait and put them in the cold frame for now having planted some of the perennials from there out in the border this week leaving space.
Yes that is it GWRS. Have just sown four pkts of seeds - two tomato, two annuals. Now for coffee and cake. The fog has just lifted in Bristol and a peep of sunshine but getting warmer now.
It will be the centenary of my late husband's birth at the end of August so, although it is 27 years since he died I have been remembering how he picked me up on our honeymoon in East Lambrook as I had no wellies and carried me to see Margery. Fish's snowdrops. So when I saw these three books on sale I had to have them. they arrived today just in time for the bad weather at the weekend.
The sun has come out and the tulips have opened up.
