Another warm day forecast with no rain so lots of watering jobs to do. My pelargoniums are all out in containers now in my "Drive" nursery so have to be nurtured ready to go out in the front garden for my Bristol in Bloom display. I have ordered five of the lovely "Apple Blossom" ones from Guernsey but they are only plugs for me to grow on for the conservatory in the winter. I ordered some double fuchsias as well as they too are very lovely.
I reckon you're probably 2 or 3 weeks ahead of me, Marion. Even my foxgloves are still in bud! It's lovely to see your beautiful blooms - those primulas are wonderful. I bought a packet of mixed Primula japonica seeds at Chelsea, which say I'm to sow them in September. Hope they grow...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Are you around in the morning Marion? I have a very welcome day off and my plans have suddenly changed so I'm not going to be doing what I thought I'd be doing now. I can bring those masks around too. I'm thinking just after 10 if that suits you?
Very well thank you, Snow. Fruitcake it will be lovely to see you at last. yes 10 is fine. just come straight up the drive through my plant nursery! You will love your P. japonica Liriodendron. I have just watched a super craft program on BBC4 and thought how the way the pupils got lost in their craft and forgot even the time is like we gardeners. I find I often forget to eat at mealtimes when I am immersed in the garden.
I have just taken Fruitcake (which she is only as very yummy) round the garden . She brought me some masks to use when hedge trimming and when the air pollution is high and four lovely eggs just laid by her chickens. It was cloudy but no rain yet. We had a few smelling sessions and she has strawberries ready to eat so mine should colour up soon. She has a friend just round the corner so should see more of her.
Sow your seeds in the early autumn September if you can in compost mixed with some grit - about a quarter and sow on top with a light covering of vermiculite as they need light. They also need a cold spell so put in cold frame or a sheltered spot outdoors, they love boggy conditions so do not let them dry out. Germination can be as long as 40 days so do not throw out. Just have patience Joyce. You will be well rewarded as they selfseed when established.
My new fuchsias have just arrived so all 15 potted up now. Very nice big plugs and very good condition after flying in from Guernsey.

Marion, Have you any tips for sowing the seeds from Primula Japonica 'Apple Blossom' ?
Enjoy your freshly laid eggs
