Xhose - Expandable hose - any good?

  • The 100 ft X Hose I bought in Feb 2014 has recently split. Very disappointing as was easy to use, expanding and contracting as advertised. Not used it too much, always emptied it at the end of each use and stored inside during 2014/15 winter. Was therefore very surprised when it split and feel it is not fit for purpose, not meeting the High Street TV advertising. Contacted High Street TV to seek advice but they very unhelpful, saying they only give 12 months warranty. While I understand this is their terms, I was expecting them to help me take it up with their supplier at the very least. Having spent a lot to purchase in the first place, certainly not tempted by their suggestion to buy a replacement from them, even with a small discount. Good money after bad! In an attempt to see others' experience, I found this string of correspondence which rather suggests the contrary to High Street TV saying that the hose rarely fails. Also, if they have few failures, you would have thought they would be more helpful. So many have had the same experience as me, regardless of which company the hose was purchased from that it makes me wonder what percentage of failures there are. Any suggestions as to whether one could sensibly pursue the "not fit for purpose" angle with High Street TV to get a replacement even though outside their 12 month warranty period - or whether to approach the US company who supply the hose to High Street TV? Or am I being unrealistic in what I might expect from being sold a shoddy product?

  • Xhose must be pretty good - it's kept this thread running for two-and-a-half years.

Quite so pansy. Perhaps you should suggest it to them!  image

My first X hose  only lasted a few months before it burst, got a replacement and that was ok but I was very careful with it and put it away carefully during the winter, have used it only once this year but used it for a second time to water my pots and it has burst so will not be replacing it. Loved using it  but will be going back to my old hose until they can stop this happening.

Can't believe they're still marketing and selling this thing. No one ever has a good report on it. They really don't seem to be fit for purpose image

anniegel.  If you still have the receipt, or proof of purchase, you should return it even if it's outside the warranty period.  The hose is quite obviously not fit for purpose if it burst after such a short time.

I agree. I purchased one for my mother, cost £75 from Ideal World and less than 2 years later it had split and IW says Tough!

It is light and convenient but be aware if you have slightly low water pressure you will find it won't run a sprinkler properly

  • rubbish. bought from ideal world 18 months ago split, 2 weeks ago, but only about 3 feet from one end and managed to repair myself.

today ruptured right in the middle.

      NOW USELESS

CONVENTIONAL HOSE IS MORE HASSLE BUT MORE RELIABLE.

     STAY AWAY FROM X HOSE:)
