Hi Nanny, no it's not my real name, but I think I chose well! Your story about the garden rang a chord with me - we moved in here 4 years ago after an elderly lady have moved out and the garden was a jungle. We spent all our time and money getting the house shipshape (and having a 'later life' baby!) and it was only last year, after trying to clear the existing mess in the garden for the baby to be able to play outside that we decided a that a back to the drawing board approach needed to be taken - fences were rusted and unsafe (including one which fenced off a 10 foot drop to the lane down the side of the house!), tree stumps abounded - we dug out 9 stumps and 4 trees, and the garden isn't very big at all. There was a huge path made from rotting concrete, and the ground was full of rubbish - big stones, rusted chunks of metal, broken crockery, chicken bones, an old ash heap for starters... Finally this spring after a huge amount of graft we were able to put in flower beds, a fruit/veg/herb plot and a small lawn... we are starting to see the rewards for all the effort, hence my love for the garden/plants etc. And the best bonus is being able to let wee one (Aneurin) out to play in a safe, beautiful environment.
Harrogate flower show tomorrow eek, what I'm on the lookout for is a Cornus Kousa as I actually have a place for one , nothing else that is till I get looking round all those specialist nursery stalls , help!!!
Hahahaha Nanny Beach I had plenty of them today flitting about like a mad woman , didn't find my shrub but certainly didn't come home empty handed ooops
They've changed it all round punkdoc looks like somethings being built near the old entrance totally confusing, we had a great day though

Kathy 6, isnt a Cornus Kousa, what you get for walking in the wrong shoes!!!
Hoping to go to Harrogate at the weekend. So many excellent small Nurseries exhibit there and so many knowledgeable people to talk to.

Everytime my husband comes home and looks at the garden he says, is that a new plant and I say, nooo it's been there forever you just never noticed
Well not really, it's normally been there for around a week before he notices so it's not technically "new"
