my husband keeps telling me that I don't need any more plants and we have to review our spending (especially after visits this year to Gardeners World Live, Hampton Court (only bought 1 here) and Tatton flower shows) and did a big eye roll at my bargain hunting on Saturday at my fave nursery which involved 2 salvia hot lips (99p each), a monarda - Cambridge Scarlet (99p), a hardy osteospernum (£3.99 - pink for daughter) and a small hosta fire and ice (£2.99 - it was the last one) - plus 3 bags of grit because I had ran out and garden on clay. Mind you I am still growing on the last job lot of perennials I bought from T&M (I've read your comments and don't think I'll be needing perennials in such large volumes again anyway) and so the patio is somewhat covered in pots, and the table has a fair few there too (inc the small pots of wallflowers after Monty said to start a few weeks ago)...
Oh, JulieH3, Husbands always imagine you dont need any more plants, I dont know how big yours are, but the prices seem amazing. I have bought quite a few from Morrisons this year and quite honestly were cheaper than me growing from seed. I think your Husband must be a relative of mine, I often hear that review of spending thing.
I managed to be all sensible and not buy three plants I wanted but didn't have space for.
Twenty-four hours I'm still having to resist the urge to sneak out of the house (I don't know why sneak: there's only the dog here and he's fast asleep) to go and get them.
Nanny Beach, these were my purchases from the post above. For the prices I'm not complaining about any of the sizes. I've tried taking cuttings from the salvia tonight as from reading on the forum they aren't always hardy. Fingers crossed. Some astrantia seeds jumped into my purse from a dry head also and my husband has managed to lose them, so I'm claiming a full plant in compensation ????
JulieH3 well, I can see the were a bargain, Hubby unable to complain, I often see a plant advertised a couple of pounds think "marvelous", then it comes, a couple of inches tall. OK, I confess I cannot get the hang of this metric lark, cms, mean nothing to me! Mind you, I did buy a Fennell ansd Lavatera in 9cm pots last year, (to save money, you understand!) this year the lavatera is as tall as me, and the Fennell a good metre, (Oh, I am getting better) ast year I bought some soft black netting for the veg, and the cabbage white, ordered by metres accidentally instead of feet, but has been a God send and used, so was a "good" mistake". Just looking through the Bakker catalogue, they have put "Calathea Flamestar, by a Honeysuckle, thought, must be a new variety, says strongly scented, looked it up, no such Honeysuckle, It is actually a greenhouse plant, so yes, they will be getting an e-mail from me!
For years, his idea of weeding has been to blitz my borders of everything rather than discriminate between treasures and weeds which is obviously far too complicated and time consuming. I had the most expensive compost heaps in Belgium. The cure has been a) get a gardener for 5 hours every fortnight to help me weed without him b) make him take me to the plant fairs and pay for the new treasures.
He now loves it when I come home with a garden centre or market bargain and even more when I sow and grow or swap with friends.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Ok finally planted all! Doesn't seem so bad once they are in the ground. Just need to keep oh out of the shed where all the empty pots and plant labels are

I see there are many that suffer this affliction!
Salvia hot lips also and a salvia Wendy's wish
Other than that cornflower seeds which germinated in five days!
Can't we agree that buying a plant for less than £1 doesn't really count?
Do you think OHs will go for that one?
OH now knows a bargain when I come home with one.
