Verdun , always grew a few veg in garden , but I like a garden to be a garden , so when o/h suggested getting allottment in next village and went for it and have been really pleased , still grow flowers there as well
But could not do it had not retired from full time work
Finally had dry enough day to cut the lawn today! also dug up last dahlias and cut back all dead foliage in the garden. Have weeded and uncovered some early signs of spring bulbs popping up all over! Bluebells, daffodils and crocus! last of all, have clearled the patio of debris and swept down, looks much more loved now!
I fixed the back of the birdcage 'cos a b****ing starling had found a way in through the gap at the back. I also hooked back a little bit of variegated ivy that the wind had pulled from the fence.
Does that count?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Well done wonks! The sun almost came out here so I removed dahlias from their large pots, stored them and planted about 100 tulips in the vacated pots. Also did a bit more tidying up and weeding - removed lots of field buttercup and dandelions which had become evident after the foliage of the hardy perennials had died back. They came up very easily because of the recent rain.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
Weed pulling isn't to hard when the ground is so wet is it Bob! made such a drastic difference in the overall appearance of the place just for about 2 and a half hours, not sure when we will have another chance what with weather, work and Christmas!
Dismantled bean wigwam and started clearing/tidying border but it started raining. Cleaned canes ready to put away in garage but the rain continued so had to retire to conservatory to care for house plants. Therefore, still still haven't planted all my bulbs!
I thought this thread had fizzled out as I haven't had an email notification about it. I haven't posted since the summer, but I've done lots of gardening in the autumn, replacing summer plants in pots with winter and spring ones, tidying up and manuring the veggie garden, cutting down and weeding the long border and planting tulips and spring flowers in it, clearing up and weeding the end bed. Have started the upper middle bed, still lots to do.
Just had a quick skim through to see what you've all been up to.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
