Cut the back lawn first time this year.  What a difference it makes.

Looked on last years calendar and cut it on exactly the same date 2014.

  • There was certainly some heat in the sunshine today. But my plants seem to be rather confused! I have Tulips out in full flower, whilst the Daffs in the same bed are still in tight bud image

Yesterday planted a couple of euonymous (one variegated one not), hydrangea paniculata Limelight and pittosposporum tenufolium Silver Queen. Dug over & mulched a border, split & moved a couple of delpiniums, sprayed & mulched my box hedging which has box blight (big time).

Today I have a couple more shrubs & some pachysandra to put in.

Sowed seed for my annuals at weekend, sweet peas, petunias, nemesia, cosmos, ageratum, stocks, lobelia, cleome, zinnias, larkspur and coleus. Trying pompon dahlias and sunflower "little leo" for the first time this year.

Yesterday was a lovely sunny day so ventured outside and cleared my narrow border and moved some pots sheltering over the winter in the corner into a more sunny position.

Yesterday I made a start on digging the very well trodden area behind my chicken run, which was not the easiest task! I never finished it as my body was screaming at that point, and this morning I have just been up to cover up what hasn't been dug yet. Hopefully it will be dry enough tomorrow for me to finish digging it up. I then want to break the soil up a bit more and rake it over ready for early potatoes to go in next weekend image

First couple of rounds of digging are always killers aren't they Fruitcake?

I too have that particular T-shirt.... image

  • Paullypaul, no room for a green house  image I'm afraid all on an old picnic table against window.

Hope to chat nicely to the landlord and see if I can have a greenhouse in the garden for next year.

In the mean time I'm struggling to find room I'm thinking I might invest in a poly grow house to but on the balcony south east facing so gets a good amount of morning sunshine and a nice wall to store some residual heat.

I have French marigolds, hyssop, cosmos, rudbeckia "Cherry Brandy", Nicotiana "Meercat" and the geraniums so far.

If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.

Planted a couple of Lavenders, Anemone Blanda and Sweet Rocket. Also had a quick tidy up in the greenhouse.

Added Eremurus to a bed and finished filling the new hostas bed and planting 3 Patriot clumps in it. Gritted the top, moved clumps of Geraniums together at back of shady bed.

Planted rose Hot Chocolate, 2 ferns and 2 Clematis. Conditioned soil in areas before barking underneath shrubs and the gaps between perennials before they put on growth. I've used 5 of 18 bags so far.

Fed roses and some shrubs, added root guards to all Clematis possible (four) tidied up my Kniphofia clump and potted up some Ophiopogon to make 7 1Lt plants from a single plant bought last year, but where should they go?image

Rescued a Lady fern, she looks a bit sick or just being demure.

sowed some more canna seeds. I think think the compost was too wet on the first batch. I'm growing some in heated prop bench and some on kitchen windowsill. Also sowed cosmos, purity and sweet sixteen, some night scented stock and some dahlia imperialis seeds  I collected on a mountain side in Tamil Nadu.
