Angie, I'm sure I've read somewhere that someone used one of those garden flamethrower weedgun thingummyjigs for getting rid of moss on paths. Not tried it myself.

Thanks everyone for the comments.The view was why we bought the house really. It always reminds me of that poem by R.L.Stevenson :
"A naked house, a naked moor, A shivering pool before the door" Brrr!
The garden benefits from the borrowed landscape, but I want it to blend in seamlessly so some styles of garden would just look wrong. And it is almost impossible to create shelter from the wind except a bit at the sides - if you look carefully you can see the bench from the dam, still in the pond after the high winds the other day. I've already fished it out once this week!
The middle bit is about the same as the puffballs we get already. I puffed some spores out at Mums and then put it under my magnolia and puffed some more out.
Earth stars are supposed to be common , and grow on dead hardwood, but this is the first i have seen.
Well it snowed this morning but that was ok because we have been to a friends wedding anniversary lunch I don't suppose eating and drinking can be described as gardening although I did chat to a friend about growing butternut squash dos that count, ok perhaps not

been at work to-day so none for me.
I plan to finish my propagator bench tomorrow and , much excitement, I've had an email from someone offering me a garden shredder via freecycle.
