I was doing some light hoeing by the pond and spotted a pair of newts. I can't tell you excited I was.

    Devon.
  • Used the bricks from widening the border to raise the wall at the front of my sloped border. Will get some compost and grit to fill it up tomorrow. At least now I've a bit more space to plant some of the small hill worth of plants that are about to need putting out.

Love newts image  We had loads of Gt Crested Newts on the smallholding - we watched the males doing their courting display in the ponds flashing their tails - wonderfulimage some of them aren't terribly bright though - every winter we'd find some squashed ones as they tried to hibernate under our kitchen doormat image No wonder they're endangered!!!

I've weeded most of the front border today - while I was doing that I found a hellebore seedling underneath H. Tutu - I've potted it up and labelled it and am growing impatient - how many years until I see a flower .... someone???

Well, quite a hectic day for me. First I called at my daughters who garden I created last year to carry out some lawm maintenance. De-weeded all the boarders and planted up some black grasses for her. Then it was over to my nephews house to drop of some compost in preparation of planting up their boarders tomorrow. All the plants will be from devided  stock from my own garden. Would be nice to get back in to my own garden and catch up with all things on hold

Got a lot done today, tied in clematis and the sweet peas. Pricked out and potted up petunias, verbena and didiscus.  Mowed and edged lawns.  Had to water the garden tonight it was so dry.
