oh yes the other thing I've done is glare at our 'lawn' ( mudpatch) i've stuck drainage holes in every few weeks as I feel I just can't leave it, my 2 year old wants to play on it and I care more about him playing out and digging with his sister's trowel than keeping him off the lawn.. it looks horrendous, must post a pi.. plan to reseed with seed for shady area ( East facing) if it hasn't grown nice and green with no  bare patches by end of May... I really have just had a quick browse at... forginve me... I'm going to swear... artificial grass!!!!

  • hi rosemummy  I like to try and save seeds myself the geraneums//begoneas are showing tiny seedlings .that I planted from the pods or seed sacs that they maybe called  ? I don't know I have a lot off livingstan daises to put in got 100/s  of them   (  I had at one time 3 dogs and my garden got bad with muddy patchs  )   square it off and do what I did put  patchs of turf in )  worked for me  hope it helps   Michael

Verdun, my main garden is South and West facing, at the moment after three days of sun quite Spring like. Walk around the front East facing and it is like Siberia though i did notice the Dafs are fust poking their noses up. I was brought up with a walled garden and it could be two weeks ahead of the gardens around us. This garden can be ahead of those near by as it is fully sheltered from NE winds in fact the herb bed is under the northern wall and thrives, dry and well drained helps. We used the walls for fruit trees I can still taste those Victoria plumes sun warmed off the tree. Another three weeks here before we can get stuck in at least i still have tomato' in October.

Cut back lots of dead foliage and tidied borders, can't wait to cut the lawns, everything will look so much better.

Dismayed to find some of my lovely clumps of snowdrops have had all the petals eaten overnight - anybody know what insect/bird might be responsible?

  • Overnight, Lizzie?  Slugs/snails are the most likely.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Hi Bob, yes that was my first thought - but only the petals? wouldn't they eat the green bits as well?

  • Hi all,

Just wanted to let you all know Lidl have their seeds in stock this week, at least in my store. Small seeds £1 for 5 packs and larger ones £2 for 4 or 5 packs, plus fancy ones on tape.  They seem to germinate pretty well from last years experience. All sorts of herbs, veg and annual flowers.

    Happy sowing.
