  • BOB - I would love to see pics of the tree lilies when they are in flower. Just saw some in the RHS catalogue and they look amazing

FLUMPY - love that picture, I am in Oxford so pretty mild here now.

Chilly, but bright on Sat, so I had almost a full day outside. I drastically pruned an oversized white buddleia that we rescued from a neighbours veg patch last year, hacked a berberis, that only has leaves on about 9ft up - not sure if I want it to re-grow or not as it is so spikey. Moved a box bush to make space for a new Skimmia Japonica Rubella in the more acidic border - 50p from Homebase and I can't see anything wrong with it. Plenty more grass to dig out of new border, but it is getting there slowly.

Also rescued lots of plant pots the neighbour was throwing out - I am really pleased with them, especially as they would otherwise have ended up in landfill.

Can't wait until sunset is after 5 and after work gardening can commence.

Dove:  how did your UG manage to sweep the terrace?  The only way we could do that here (Newark) is by being blown over and then swept bodily down the path so our crinolines could sweep the stuff with us....I have looked out of the window and noted the new growth coming everywhere.  Does that count?image

No wind here today, and it's been dry and almost sunny. Very warm it was a pleasure to be out.

I have sowed some seeds, Sweet Peas, and some others that need a bit of cold. Also tomatoes, but late for me, I like them already in by 1st Feb.

Started off beautiful this morning then came the rain, as usual. Must be a rainbow somewhere.

started looking through my seeds before I order any more, seperated seeds I'd collected from their cases ( lupins, delphiniums, astrantia) am desperate to start sowing! Any advice on sowing these much appreciated. Keep looking out and glaring at the fig tree ( sorry Dove) Am plotting it's demise though it will have to stay a liitle while linger, so asap am getting pruning saw to it to hack at it hard so we can have more light and my rambler rose that's been in a year and a half has some chance of getting bigger that a foot high

Watered all my pots. Despite all the rain, they seem to have dried out tonnes in the wind. Wish it was the weekend so I could spend all day in the greenhouse.
