Gosh, isn't everybody busy! Weather today better than forecast for Bath but jolly cold so just sowed some Morning Glory seeds, potted up a verbena bonarensis seedling and found a begonia corm I'd forgotten about.
Bought a bargain last week though- a quite sturdy olive bush reduced from £20 to £10 - can anyone tell me what compost would be best for this in a large pot please?
Dear Lizzie27, general purpose compost is okay for your olive but put in plenty of grit and/or sharp sand for good drainage, they are mediterranean plants and don't like wet feet, also stand your pot on feet or bricks to facilitate drainage - anyone else other ideas?
Gardening today? Here in Wigan it's been blowing a gale since yesterday, with rain, and this afternoon we've had some heavy hail showers! All I've done is water the seeds growing indoors, and given them a few words of encouragement. I went to my local garden centre this morning, to buy a pot plant for a friend, and the place was littered with overturned potted plants, battered by the high winds.

Sown Clary Bouquet, Sunflowers Vanilla Ice and Black Magic, Verbena Dwarf Jewels and Cosmos Daydream.
Potted on Aquilegia and Cleome.
Too wet to do much outside.

Thanks Pippin4,
I thought I'd need grit/sand but wasn't sure whether to use John Innes No.3 or Tree & Shrub compost as a base.

Not much
far too windy went round picking up pots and even the garden bench it has broken off two big branches from the forsythia all in bud too
New shredder arrived and proved it's worth turning 3 bags of dead stuff into dust
Compost got turned
