Planted raspberry canes with plenty of leaf mould, then tidied and cleaned the summer house . And cooked Sunday lunch roast chicken ..image

I've been spending every spare moment digging up the incessant wild garlic which is in the beds, the lawn and just about everywhere. It's like a hammer horror movie, I'm sure one morning I will wake up and there will garlic in my bedroom.

I actually did some gardening! Tidied some clematis, put some potted bulbs and small plants in a border, and forked the biggest  border. I'll need to get some compost and manure to put down though. Felt strange to be able to do something so early in the year here image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Well done folks!  Dug up a few spuds I'd forgotten about and was suprprised to find they were perfect with little slug damage and hardly any sprouting.  Baked spuds coming up for tea. image

Planted some primulas in a trough and finally got around to pruning some of my roses - wish I'd done them before Christmas but they were still blooming then.

And then, guess whatimage found some asparagus growing - in January! I've got an old builders crate with the asparagus growing in a builders dump bag inside and I'd really fleeced it well and covered it over this winter, presumably it was too warm so the asparagus thinks it's April. Will wait a few days and then see if it's edible.

No  gardening for me today as I was volunteering in the cafe, but while I was out my OH disposed of my strawberry pot. It was one of those corrugated plastic ones. The plants had all died (vine weevil I thinkimage). Now I'm on the look out for a new one. I'm thinking terracotta for looks and durability but having trouble finding one with good planting pockets that the compost won't fall out of. I might go for one of those plastic stacking ones in the meantime.

Spent most of yesterday reading up on plants. Quite like the idea of a handkerchief tree but worried they may need a lot of room.

Do them handkerchief take years to flower?
