That earthstar is amazing Fidget, I'm another who has never seen one. My dad was fascinated by fungi and took hundreds of photo's of them and then spent days looking them up and labelling each slide with the latin name. Now when my daughter or I see a good one we chorus 'Grandad would have liked that' and often take a picture ourselves. There's quite a variety grow on our fields, but most of them are not edible. A botanist did a survey once of all our flora & fungi and said we'd got magic mushrooms too, but can't say I've ever seen them. Lots of wax caps and scarlet caterpillar fungus though.
As far as the salt goes, the lady on the next allotment to me used to use salt to keep the weeds down on her path, it seemed to work and it didnt appear to have any ill effects, i suppose i depends how sensitive the plants are growing near by, its probably more of a problem with perennials, hope it works for you
I'm intending to tidy the front garden today which not only keeps up with the jones' but acts as a perfect excuse to skip gym today
I'm jealous of Verdun who owns a shrub I would very much like this year. I have the purple one already but Grace has amazing autumn colour although I'm inclined towards Golden Spirit for its bright green spring foliage. Can't decide
After having to scrape the frost of my windscreen last night the sun is out today and I notice buds on the snowdrops after I raked off the leaves yesterday and signs of flower in the pushkinias (always the first bulbs to flower in my garden) - but the postman has just delivered GW magazine...so am tempted to sit down with a coffee first.....after all I need to recuperate fromyet another root canal treatment at the dentist this morning!
but I did plant some slips from the spray carnations I bought this week....womnder if they'll grow?
