Dour and wet, that is just the weather. Sitting here sniffling the family cold which has gone around since Christmas finally caught up with me. No gardening today then.
Good excuse for a hot toddy Frank. Possum has given me hers which is very kind of her. Too cold and snowy to garden anyway so, between sneezes, I'm doing some sorting in my sewing attic, clearing out patterns I had for suits and dresses in the 80s when I had to be smart every day.
Anyone interested in unused patterns for Barbie doll outfits or a toy rabbit with dresses? Possum turned out not to be that girl so I never made them.

I use my Dads cure for every thing squeezed lemon honey whisky topped up with hot water he used it on pigs geese the dog cat and us at the slightest whisper of a cough, it works you forget the cold in no time.
My mother was a dress maker tayloress she had a room full of patterns dummies and sewing machines though she preferred the old treadle singer, I quite often found myself draped in a part made coat or dress whilst she sorted some problem with the hang. it all came down to heavy bribes when the article was a dress, cross dressing definitely not my thing. Those old patterns would probably be worth a fortune today.
I like the honey and lemon part but not whisky. Do it with rum sometimes.
I have a treadle machine and two old hand powered Singers and one of their first fancy stitch electric ones from the 50s and my simple electronic Toyota which will be unwrapped and used to teach Possum to sew. She's finally asked to be shown. She won't get her hands on my shiny new Bernina though.
Expect I'll have to wait another 20 years for her to be interested in gardening again. Loved it when she was a tot but not now.

Hooray! A "window" in the weather meant I could get outside and clear a few bits and pieces and measure out exactly where my new shed and greenhouse will go. (It's a new-to-me garden, so lots of changes to be made).
And now I've done it! I've only gone and ordered my greenhouse! It's small-ish (5 x 6) which I a good thing, or I'd be tempted to do too much (we've down-sized both house and garden - and now down-sized the GH too). I can't wait to get started.
All the plants that I brought in pots from my previous garden (cuttings, divisions etc) are doing fine - except for two heucheras. And guess what has got them? Only the wretched vine weevil! Other pots seem ok - drenched with Provado as a precaution.
Verdun - I've done that successfully in the past. Trouble is, these pots are (because of the move) multi-planted with spring bulbs. So I've taken the obviously damaged bits away for destruction, picked out the grubs I could see and drenched the rest - but put the affected pots in quarantine until I can deal with them!
Thank goodness I did plant some daffs, crocus and tulips in pots - this garden is a desert so far as spring bulbs are concerned! (But all the more of a blank canvas for me to do with as I please).

My snowdrops are coming out and the Roe deer here don't eat them. -2° frosty, too cold for gardening. Need to get logs in for the woodburner.

Lovely and sunny now, but the ground is sodden and I'm busy with other things.
