All planned gardening was stopped by rain for most of the day. Fed birds and watered house plants. Then OH and I spent the rest of the day researching the pros and cons of low fat fryers.

Supposed to be replacing trellis panels today, taking them from one place and moving to another but -12C this morning so, apart from dog walking, we're staying tucked up.

Have given the birds extra rations.

  • Hi,

I am pleased to say the log I positioned to keep next doors dog out has done the trick, although I think I may have been too quick to blame the dog. We had a cheeky fox on the decking coming to eat left over cat food and I think he/she might be the culprit.

Planted one new holly yesterday, but most parts of the garden were frozen, so couldn't do much. Topped up the squirrel / bird feeders. I am hoping it is less icy at the weekend, so that I get more of the new border sorted.

Anyone know a good supplier of horticultural grit? I am tired of my pots looking either a mess or empty in winter so thought I would turn the 2 concrete troughs into alpine containers.

Any other ideas for evergreen outdoor pot plants. I was thinking of mini conifers that I can then surround with seasonal flowers.

Hope it isn't too cold where you are.

At least the sun is shining here. image

Jomilton , hello , I just get mine from local g/c 3 bags for £10

I have two troughs , put ordinary gravel in bottom then filled with 50% sived compost and grit , it has worked well

lots of evergreens out there depends what you like , I got a couple of heathers in pots , the hellebores are doing well

best of luck whatever you do , let us known image

Hospital check today one year and five months after the big one, everything normal Sister Lorna said they will call me in six months for one final scan session then it will go to every two or three years, my consultant said I will out last him, will he guarantee that I ask.

Weather very dull although we now have 4c, knowing our NE area I will still hang back a few weeks, we often get a bad February no point in rushing.

    Frank.

    Well done Frank.

Getting warmer here - only -8C this morning - and set to be frost free again by Saturday but yes, February can be the hardest month here too so no rush to get going but I do need to do some maintenance and mending on trellis panels and posts as soon as it's OK.
