Raked, spiked and sanded the shaded part of the back lawn, will seed it tomorrow. Planted out the new lavender and valerian plants in the front garden.
Wiell we have had some sunny days in Brum over the last week or two so decided to give all the new growth in my garden a good watering. When your garden measures 60m long by 8m wide , that takes a bit of watering Divided some phlox and black eyed susan so I can give some to the rest of my family who don't know much about gardening but love how my plants look in the summer. When I tell them it doesn't just happen like that and it takes a bit of know how to get it right, they look at me as if it's easy
if I have a dry day tomorrow , I will be giving the lawn a aeration with a tine fork and then top dress.so that a good 8 hours of work to be done
Planted my onion sets today, red and yellow, also shallots. Planted out sweet peas. Had a re-shuffle in the GH and pricked out some tomatoes and cosmos. Loads more to prick out. The electric cable heated mat on the shelf has been very useful.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I mowed the lawn on Saturday, did lots of pruning yesterday and today bought two primroses and three violas from the little plant stall in a local village. The primroses have joined the others near the pond, the violas waiting for a pot.
Seeds coming through in the GH. Ragged Robin,Borage,Salvia Sylvestris,Red and White Campion,Field Scabious,Cerinthe. Little delphs, aquilegias, ragged robin, primroses and water avens growing on from last autumn's sowing. Cornflowers,Corn Marigolds and Common Toadflax sown yesterday.
Yesterday - I commenced the task of filling in my log/tree stump raised bed (if you can call it that!) - dug the existing soil over a few inches (clay and many roots), put in a few wheelbarrows of leaf mould and then realised I only had one bag of top soil - epp! So I 'recycled' a big heap of soil that was dumped behind the rhodedendrons a few years back, although it was more like clumps of soil held together by the roots of something long gone that I had to whack against the wheelbarrow to separate - lord only knows what the neighbours think of me . On Sunday my Dad said it looked like I was making a mini fort.....photos to follow as long as I remember!
Partially turned the compost heap, messed about with my grassy paths repairing more bare patches, emptied a bag of course horticultural grit into a flower border. Rotavated the veg plot (again). Contemplated moving to somewhere (anywhere) that isn't on London Clay...

give the dicentra (now Lamprocapnos) time - it may not be ready to emerge yet

Then it started to rain.
The rain has turned to hail.
I thought I'd make the most of the weather while it doesn't rain and put the finishing touches (aside from plants) to my project:
