  • Always have sparrows in the garden, horrible squabbly birds, thought they were supposed to be social! No giggling, had a pair of great tits in the garden, makes a nice change image

Got finches in the street, but cant get them in the garden.

Was there a partridge in a pear tree pansyface?  imageimage

We used to see loads of mistle thrushes in a previous garden though they mostly flocked onto the big area of grass at the front of the houses in the summer and autumn. Not had any in this garden yet though. We don't get song thrushes here.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Lovely story image

Some years ago when I had moved in with my (now ex) partner for a short time, we had  loads of snow lying for weeks. I looked out a window one day and there was a little flock of birds on the only clear patch of grass under a tree in the back garden. 7 partridges. They visited every day for about a week image

Lots of partridges in Norfolk and Suffolk - I can guarantee I'll see several coveys tomorrow on my way down to visit the Aged Ps.  Both the English grey-legged and the French red-legged varieties.  Lovely birds image

A partridge nested below our kitchen window one year and I was right there to watch the newly hatched stripey babies being led off across the lawn.

Never had that happen since and it was years ago nowimage

Pair of blackbirds, Fred our resident woodpigeon, dunnock, blue tits and the surprise of the morning a flock of goldfinches on a verbascum olympicum flower spike. They never come this far up the garden.

  • Not a bird, I know, but he's on a bird feederimage   And hanging from the roof by one toenail!   You can see he has pulled up the string (paw over paw) until he could catch hold of the shell and feast on my special mix.   All sorts of goodies in there, dried fruit, sunflower hearts, porridge oats, crushed peanuts, just what the doctor ordered - RSPB, that is!   Such a pleasure to watch him from inside a warm room, while it is 1.3 degrees outside.   Just wish for a better photo.

All the usual suspects:  blackbirds, a thrush, a cheeky robin, pigeons, collared doves, blue and great tits, long-tailed tits.  However, great excitement today...the windowbox, now full of blue pansies and ivy, is being seriously investigated by a wren.  She's been backwards and forwards a few times today, and spends a little while burrowing around in there.  I fear the spring windowbox may be a no-no this year and I'll have to wait until after fledging to replant if she does decide that this is a 'des res' in wren terms!!
