I didn't Oneofseven unfortunately I missed it. I really must remember about it next year and make sure I get it done. I did it last year. Tree Creepers are just great aren't they? To be honest though, I'm happy whatever bird I'm watching (not so keen on the mob mentality of the pigeons or magpie's, don't get me wrong, I like both but when there's so many of them!!) and life would be absolutely awful without birds. Our dawn chorus is quite something too!
I always thought fieldfares were open country birds, but we always get them in the garden because they come to eat the fallen apples. I have three ancient tree and just can't cope with the surplus (thats after giving away and juicing, freezing and turning into pies and crumbles). In the end of leave a few heaps of apples in the garden - and down come the fieldfares. I envy you your wide range of birds Heather....but we do now have two tree creepers if you can locate and follow them!
fed two robins today odd grubs whilst digging a bed. Not long and they were jumping up and down starring at me demanding food one nearly ended up under a great clod of soil as it fell of my fork.
3 Jays, one after the other, landed on pergola, had a quick look around and exited stage right (and no, it wasn't the same one doing a circuit of our house to fool me - I could still see the other(s) in a neighbours garden). Only ever seen single Jays before - beautiful colours, agile, elegant & seemingly effortless flight. Unfortunately, we have a thriving population of their rather less pleasant relative, the murderous magpie
At long last I had my first ever goldfinch visit today after taking advice from other forum members to put out sunflower seed hearts (that is what he was eating). I hope he sends the message back to his clan to sample the seeds in our garden.
Keepitlive - I hate the horrible raucous sound of the magpie in the spring as I know they are searching out bird eggs. I know they have to eat something but the warning cry of the blackbirds is heartbreaking.
All the usual suspecs for this time of year but it's sunny and 8C out there so I've had 3 buzzards wheeling over the garden and field behind and a great white egret in the paddock across the road, hunting frogs along the stream.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Thank god the wood pigeon stayed in the tree.
The Goldfinches went awol here for a while but between 4 and 6 have been hammering the sunflower seed feeders today.
Lovely birds - I always think they look very exotic compared to most of the species usually seen in the UK.

Afraid the jays are just as murderous as the magpies
