Hello flumpy. I have just been watching Love your Garden with Alan Titchmarsh in the Somerset Levels because one of my FB friends was featured with her She- shed. I had seen pictures of it but it was lovely to see it on TV and they interviewed Dana too. Did you manage to stay cool today?
2.30pm Wednesday and just back from our trip to Canberra to see an Ophthalmologist. The whole forward trip of 2 hours plus was in heavy fog and then the return trip was lovely and sunny, but we got caught behind a bus/converted caravan monstrosity that no one could get around for ages. There were 30-40 vehicles caught behind it for miles, until we got to an overtaking lane. I'm looking forward to a big cup of tea to calm down. Hubby isn't much happier, either. If only the specialists were closer!
The house is cold because the fire had gone out, so hubby is revving it up again.
How did you go in the heat yesterday, Marion? O.k. I hope.
I checked the greenhouse when I got back and the minimum temp had been 1degree C overnight and the maximum just now was 20 degrees C. Have opened the door to give it some fresh air, but will have to go out again about 4pm to close up.
No problems with my heart rate yesterday, Pat, Thank you for asking, i stayed indoors with all the windows and doors closed to keep out the heat and drank lots of water and very cold milk and fruit juice. Today is forecast to be even hotter and many thunderstorms coming up from France. So another day indoors. Wimbledon has reduced its intake so the spectators can have access to shade and the water fountains easier. My trachelospermum which was due to be delivered from Amazon yesterday did not arrive so I am afraid it may have perished in a hot van somewhere.
The temperature in one of my greenhouses yesterday hit 45 degrees! I picked the rest of the gooseberries yesterday so I need to get those dealt with. I suspect that most of those will be heading into the fermenting bucket
My main concern is keeping my chickens as cool as I can in this heat. I put a tray half filled with water in their run yesterday and it amused me to see them standing in it so they clearly like it
This is one of my two new cosmos plants i had to try from seed foor Mr Fothergill's Seeds Nation of Gardeners Project. It is called"Xanthos" a pretty cream and low growing so needs no staking.
As I was writing - I love the cosmos. I only have a pink. I get all of my new seeds from my diggers club in Victoria - they mostly only have heritage seeds and plants. I saved lots of seeds from my pink cosmos last autumn, so plan on scattering them under and around a big eucalyptus below the house - they should make a good display ( all being successful).
the cream one you've grown is lovely. I might be able buy some seeds in the garden centre.
Not on the market yet, WillDB but i like it too. My climbers from Amazon courtesy of British gas have just arrived and are now having a drink after two days in the post in the hottest weather.

I hope your weather was a bit nicer today.

Wise chickens. Cool feet means cool body.

Hit the wrong button. Don't know what has happened to my half written note

That's a nice looking Cosmos, looks like it won't get top heavy like some.
