  • My mother used to say to encourage me in my learning "The more you do, the more you can do", GWRS, and i think gardening is the same - doing it encourages you to do more and builds up your physical strength too.  But I am a gtreat believer in learning the best way to tackle jobs.  For instance many of the plants I am buying cheaply in the sales are new to me "At least cultivation of them is) so I am potting them up for a season to be able to study their likes and dislikes before they are given a permanent place in the garden.

Bristol is damp this morning so we had some rain through the night but bathed in glorious sunshine now and warmer than yesterday.  50 plug plants beckon to be potted up and I must continue my rescuing of tender plants and try to bring in another 25 before I run out of steam.

Hi Marion, GWRS  and anyone else on site. I've been a bit out of it for a couple of days with a bit of poor health, but have been watching your lovely photos.  Will get going again when I'm better.image

  • A splendid day at the Bristol Group of the AGS annual conference.  Here is a pic pf my booty.  I won the bouquet and book in the raffle and bought Diascia personata, Hylomecon japonicum and Potentilla eriocarpa  as well as three rare iris bulbs and 10 of the saffron crocus - Crocus sativus  The four talks were all splendid and the lunch delicious and the sun shone all day.

Sounds as though you had a great day Marion. Hello to GWRS and Flumpy as well. I'm still very ill. I'm pretty fed up with it, but just have to get through it. I've dropped 3kg in the last week. Not surprising since I don't seem to be able to force much food down.

Just now made a slice of white toast (which we never have in the house, but Hubby thought it might be better than our usual grain bread while I'm having problems).  I only managed about a quarter of the slice and had to stop. I'll try to nibble at it as the morning goes by. Also only managed a little tea.

Theres a cold, wet weather event coming over from the south west for the next week, so Hubby has put the washing on for me. Hopefully it'll get dry this afternoon before the change.  It's very sunny out there at the moment. I went out to the GH and the thermometer ranged from 3c overnight to 35c when I opened the door,.  It must be confusing for the plants.

  • Oh dear Pat, you are going through the wars.  Hope today's sunshine can help.  Our weather is set fair for today too but all change tomorrow, though we have a forecast for an Indian summer on the way for three weeks from the end of the month well into October.  I feel eager and ready to go at the multitude of tasks needing done in my garden after my day off.
