Yes, GG,one son is coming on Sunday to do some pruning in the front garden to try to prevent some leave fall on my long drive. The neighbours have carte blanche to help themselves to fruit especially rhubarb, grapes and Bramley apples. I stuff two freezers full at this time of year with food and next door has room in her large garage freezer for me too. When I go to give a gardening talk in the autumn I take freebies of fruit and veg and flowers. The upstairs two bedrooms are given over to storing apples and pears, potatoes and onions, and bunches of drying herbs. The family when they come for a meal take bags full home too. The wildlife loves my abundant larder as well. Not for nothing is Bristol the Green Capital of Europe this year. The harvest is great.
Thank you, GG. It is a bit nippy this morning so the birds were stripping my pyracantha bush of its berries while I made the bed. The one on the top is the friendly one who loves to sit in a tree nearby when i am working in the garden and his mate is hidden in the berries. You may be able to see her head just right of the hazel leaf at the end of the branch.
Yes, GG ten sunflowers just coming to their zenith for Mr. Fothergill's Nation of Gardeners trial. They are "Titan" from seed. Mine are not the tallest of the 20 or so participants but it is a lovely flower and has good leaves too.
Another beautiful day dawns in Bristol. I am expecting my delivery of fifteen perennials (three of five kinds) today and have ordered more compost to pot them up. the cold frame is nearly full so I shall be taking some up to the potager for the winter wher they will be snug in the south and west facing leas of the raised beds with gravel to sit on. I am really appreciating my new wheelbarrow now. I cannot believe I waited till i was so far into my eighties to buy one. I can wheel three pots together in a third of the time it used to take me to carry them. My bargain wallflowers are on the way too.I am hoping they will be large enough to plant out directly into the perfume garden.
It started to rain then my 60 bareroot wallflowers arrived followed in minutes by my Secret Gardening Club plants. Here they are waiting for me to don my raincoat and pot them up. From the front, three each of Heuchera "Ruby Bells", Agastache "Tangerine Dream" (one with a flower on), Achillea "Gold Plate",Brunnera macrophylla, Eryngium bourgatii.and at the back my wallflowers. Oh I do so love the bargains this autumn. The Secret Gardening Club had a lovely video of Anne swithenbank talking about rescuing plants which have been neglected in some way and answered members questions about this. So informative and enjoyable and held in her own garden. I am really enjoying this club.
