Back home from two lovely visits. The music in the Mall garden was provided by a very good drummer, guitarist and singer from Senegal. I got a wooden pig for the garden and a little china jug for my Welsh dresser in exchange for the toddlers wellies and toys I took from the loft (and of course some space. My friend looked very well after his operation and his garden back and front was just beautiful.
my visitors haven't emerged yet, so I'm taking the opportunity to catch up on some of the messages you have all been posting. It's so nice to keep in touch and hear all your gardening exploits, etc.
catch you all later, and hope you all have a lovely day over there.
Going to be 24 degrees in Bristol today and sunny. Better do the gardening in little packets I think. I am enjoying my "Flower Hunters" book so my rattan armchair and it will be carried out to its spot under the garden umbrella. I see the posting clitch is still here so no pictures possible.
We will find out tomorrow what she died of - 72 is no age for women nowadays. I think the average is 82 or so. She gave a great deal of enjoyment to millions of people.
9.45am here and preparing to take a load of washing to the line - it's going to be a battle though, the wind is ferocious (and freezing cold). At least I have Julie to hold the line still while I peg them out. They are predicting snow in Tasmania down to 400m today. It feels like it's coming straight from the Antarctic! We might get some, but they haven't been that specific for us.
so sorry to hear about Cilla Black. We haven't heard it here yet, but will no doubt be on the news tonight.
all the lettuce in the GH are going well - it was 24c in there when I opened the door. Typical with sunny day but out of the wind, so the seedlings are relishing the warmer conditions. They probably won't be so happy after the door has been open for several hours. Breed them tough!
It is so good to know you can grow your own lettuce right through the year as we do here as long as you have some glass or a polytunnel.Pat. Cooler today in Bristol and cloudier but 20 degrees is fine to garden in. the farmers are starting to harvest rape for rape seed oil so we nee dry weather for a good harvest. I shall harvest some of my potatoes today and weed the ground and sow some annuals for autumn flowers.
At last I can post pictures from the weekend when I visited the Mall in Clifton for their "Music in the Park" afternoon and got my new pig to mark the spot where there was a pigsty and which is so fertile it seems the pigs are still manuring it. My companion is dear Cathy, partner of son no4, who chauffered me there then over to visit my sick friend who showed her his lovely house and garden despite feeling a bit grotty after his op. He recovered somewhat yesterday.
I have daughter, SIL and 2 grandchildren here. They are moving house, will be a lot nearer me. Moving in on Wednesday, but have moved out of old house.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
