Very wet out in the garden and still drizzling but it is very mild and fairly bright so the forecast of a good day from noon or so seems to be accurate enough.  Perhaps my plants I was expecting yesterday will arrive this morning.  I brought in a pile of Bramleys yesterday so this morning will be busy processing them.

No rain and no meetings today so a bit of gardening I think

Any special plans for your Bramleys?

Only to pulp them with cinnamon and freeze.  A little cinnamon goes a long way as it gets stronger in the freezer, though I cannot for the life of me figure out why.  but all spices seem to do that - i have to use less pepper in my soups I mean to freeze too.I have found some mincemeat left over from last year so may add some Bramleys to that and make some crumbles to freeze too.  It is good to have some puddings made up ready to microwave too.  I enjoy a meal of soup and pudding made months before - my way of using convenience foods!

  • Good morning Marion,

Still waiting for our rain.....very grey so its coming.

My mum use to make lovely Bramley Apple pies........her short crust was the best!!!! So light and crispy, pity her expertise wasn't inherited by any of her 3 daughters!!!!

Love yesterday's autumn pics, very beautiful.

Although I dislike winter( I blame my joints!!), I do think autumn colours are breathtakingly  beautiful.

Hope your plants arrive safe and we'll today.

Have a good day, take care x

Flowers in the rain, my landlady in Hull showed me how to make the best short crust pastry almost seventy years ago - secret is the fat she used, half lard, half butter!  Melts in the mouth!  Still raining in Bristol so I have a duckpond forming now on the kitchen patio.

  • That's exactly what mum use to use.

Pouring down here now and awfully grey too.

    Have your plants arrived yet?

Not yet but neither has parcel post.  Still hoping.  They are from Secret Gardening Society which has a phone number to ring if worried.  They promise delivery within five days but one of my order was an aster that does not get lifted till November (bare root) so perhaps that is what is holding them up.  It has been such mild weather lots of plants are still flowering.  I have been doing some retail therapy to counteract garden withdrawal symptoms and oredered four Xmas presents and a footstool for me with flowers on top - used ebay for the first time!  Rain can be so expensive!

  • Oh wow Marion......I've not even got round to thinking about present buying yet! We did get the decorations down from the loft a fortnight ago and I do have my cards, must admit I have thought about writing them out!

Still raining hard here and, as I've just finished all my house cleaning chores, I am thinking of having a potter in the greenhouse. Then I'll download a new library book, its a shame but for some reason Hampshire Library don't offer any gardening books online.

On the positive side our garden did need a good soaking and our 4 water butts needed a job to do!!
