Another sunny, dry, warm day. I will take my postal vote to the post box and then the garden will have my full attention. Plenty of home made meals stocked up in the fridge and freezer so no need for shopping and no one calling till the heating engineer on Wednesday morning. Some of my tomatoes need pricking out so that will be added to my daily list today.
Just a stretch of path to tidy now and I will have ticked off today's tasks, then a lovely sit down out in the warm sunshine. Never short f Vitamin D in this weather! Two more terracotta pots filled today so only ten more to go. Some can have pelargoniums out of the conservatory as they are starting to flower nicely again. More potatoes showing their tops today. Just chased one of the friendly cats out of the house as he was grey with dust (one of the three black ones)! Must have been having a dust bath somewhere.
Another brilliant day for gardening and two more forecast. One waterbutt is empty and no doubt another will be depleted today. But rain forecast for Friday so no need to start worrying about the cost of metered water yet. All new plantings from yesterday standing up fine this morning. Sunshine shows up dirty windows so will do the windows in one room every morning till I have covered the bungalow before starting on my list.and get rid of some of the cobwebs while doing them. Good thing about lists that have to be tackled every day is you cannot wait to get started. A job well begun is a job half done.
Looks like I will be able to repeat the two hours work in the morning, afternoon and evening I did in the garden yesterday again today without any aches or breathlessness so healthwise I may be back to my 42 hour week which is what my huge garden requires of me. The tamarisk, lilacs, and laburnums are on the brink of joining the clematis montana today and the apple blossom is fully out. My orange cowslips have followed the yellow ones now over and my species tulip Tulipa clusiana has spread to two big clumps this year so seeding itself nicely. My viburnum opulus has ;lots of snowballs on ready to open.
If your soil is still cold and wet wait a week or so but I should think it should be fine to do it now. Remember to harden them off outside for a few days first to get them used to being outside - outdoors in the day and brought in for the night for three days or so. The tall ones will need to be tied to their support till the tendrils start to catch on or you could pinch their tops again to get bushier plants.
