Oh what a lovely blue and pink sky this morning but rain forecast by 10oclock so that explains it.  Still feels mild and calm at the moment.  I may get some wprk done outside early.  This is the view from my drive.

Ten on the dot the rain started so I stripped my bed, put the bedding in the washer, cleaned my bedroom all except the picture rails as I did not feel it was wise to climb up and down with no one in the house.  Now lovely and clean for the New Year.  I will tackle the kitchen and study this afternoon when I get my breath back.  It takes me a week now for what used to be a two day job but it is a very big bungalow and I think I have got a bit more particular in my old age.  When the seven children were all around whatever I did was soon messed up.

They did not all come at once, Lily Pilly and I grew stronger as each one appeared.  To begin with I added foster children and later as they grew up French schoolchildren came for the summer and then university students from Ireland and HongKong.  I often found myself catering for a dozen or more!  The more the merrier was true in our house.  One of my grandmothers had twelve children and the other ten so I was used to hordes of cousins, all younger than me so I was chief babysitter.  I had three younger siblings too.  My mother's motto was "The more you do, the more you can do" so I worked on that.

Mild and windy this morning with a bit of drizzle.  14 degrees at 7 this morning.  the hazelnut trees are clinging on to their leaves and nothing in the garden looks wintry.  Lots of bulbs in pots up so I will try and make room for them in the conservatory later.  On with the Xmas cleaning now as lots of visits promised.

Visitor coming this morning early so up early to a very wet scene in the garden with puddles everywhere, but the forecast is for sun and dry most of the day so looking forward to that. The hellebores I brought on for Xmas are obliging with flowers but the red camellias do not seem to be going to open their fat buds till a bit later.  I do not think I would be much use at getting things spot on for a wedding or anniversary date somehow.
