That is it, Fritillary! Must try and find it in my hundreds of gardening books! Bristol is dull this morning but hope to get out in my garden later and fill up the green wheeliebin.
Green wheeliebin full up. I checked on my trials for Mr. Fothergills Nation of Gardeners project and pea meteor plants have all disappeared in the frost but pansy "Cool Wave" is flowering well in the cold weather so did some deadheading. The underplanting of tulips is
showing in the baby bath. Looking at the leaves I think I may have planted daffodils! Perhaps it was a mixture.
Such changeable weather! Today it is wet, dull mild but very windy in Bristol and the forecast is for cold when the sun comes out in the afternoon. I think I will resign myself to conservatory gardening today. I have a lot of evergreens which will still be dripping in the wind this afternoon making anything I attempt uncomfortable to say the least. The duckpond is forming outside the kitchen and the wind is howling down the chimney in my study as I type.
As promised we have wall to wall blue skies now but a fierce wind and cod so just took my camera out for a walk round just to stave off cabin fever. There are snowdrops growing in corners all round and I bet some of my self seeds are coming up n a few of my neighbours' gardens as well. They have certainly travelled some distance in my garden.
Oh dear the temperature has gone down a tad, 4 the max today. It is dry at the moment and we had a beautiful red sky this morning so I think rain or sleet will arrive soon. Wheeliebin is stuffed ready to be emptied tomorrow morning anyway so will content myself with indoor gardening unless the sun shines.
Same weather here Marion, 3·3 at the moment with promise of sleet, I feel sorry for the people who took the chance and sowed seeds this week!
-your Hellebore above looks promising, mine are just beginning to pop open, very slow this year and the snowdrops havent opened at all, still standing straight. I have a photo of them from last year 18th Jan, all fully opened.
Do you have to pay yet for your green waste to be collected, ours is still free at the moment?
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
I pay £15 a year for my green wheeliebin, Lyn, being a pensioner. I think it is about half but everybody had to pay for the bin upfront when the scheme started. Many people did not have one as they thought it should be free since the garden waste is composted and sold as compost.
Ours if free, we have big bags which they will supply and empty for free, the bags are given free up to five.. I asked about buying it back but they dont sell it to the public, only put it on their own gardens/parks etc,

A short flurry of snow this afternoon in Bristol and it is so cold now I think we may have some through the night.
