No wonder you are pleased with your painting, Marion,it's lovely.  What me dumb did you use?  I have only worked in watercolour so far.

This spell checker is killing me.  I was asking what medium you used.

Marion, your garden just gets better and better.  What a lovely range of flowers. They must like the warm weather.

That was an oil painting, Pat.  Watercolour is my chosen medium usually but i was studying art at the West of England Academy and had to try the lot.  Acrylics are good for flowers as the bright colours are easy to mix.

My friend has concentrated on salvias this summer in his tiny back garden.  i bet the bees are loving them.

Cooler today but no rain so should get the rest of the hardy geraniums cut back and start to tackle the contorted hazel which needs the uncontorted shoots pruned to show up its weirdness.  It is big enough to give me a few contorted branches to dry as well for flower arrangements in the winter.  I wonder whether the chancellor has anything to say about pollution control in the budget today.  It is well past time to encourage environmentally good practice with cash incentives like tax reductions for firms who make pollution free cars, vans and buses.

Marion, I'm pleased to note today that the Forsythia branches that I cut and brought into a vase a few weeks ago, have started to open.  It was a surprise this morning to catch a glimpse of yellow where I was not expecting to see it.  Thanks for the suggestion.

I read that tip in a book by Mrs Stanley Searle written in !912, Pat!  Raining a little in Bristol but I did get a bowl of strawberries picked in before it started.

I have just watched the first in a new series of gardening programs called "The Autistic Gardener" on Channel 4 weds. at 8pm.  It is quite different from other gardening programs.  i believe it has broken the mould and replaced it with something better.  this to me is an ideal way to teach gardening and a lot more besides.  The young couple for £3000 were presented with a living work of art and even better the viewers were treated to the very warming sight of the team of young autistic gardeners getting great satisfaction out of their work.
