I am with Beaus Mum, the idea is not to compare programmes but enjoy the ones you like and turn off the ones you do not, I do this with some of the latest make overs as not practical  and costly. All Monty's clients have under estimated the cost although seem happy to pay for what they want. The only free garden is Nature, the woods hedgerows and area's not touched by man, yet they still need some management that will cost money so really not free at all. Monty dealt with a chap who had a dream which he was not going to alter and did it gently, off came the coat and he got stuck in when he saw the struggle with the pond and although it was not exactly to plan there was room to develop over the next year. We all have dreams, they will not be handed to us on a plate we have to work for them, nothing comes free.

I am enjoying the series.  However, I dont feel it was very well advertised in advance, I only happened across it in a paper on Monday.

There are bits I prefer more than others.  I like the fact that its filmed over a year, that the new gardeners will make mistakes (cue me shouting at the telly), that Monty does give his honest opinion, that people use the creation of their gardens for many reasons (therapy, healing, mother in law!) and the fact that he also recognises that as long as the owners love their garden, thats the main thing.

Yes, gardens can be expensive and often many of us will build and improve our gardens as and when time and budget allow.  We cadge plants from friends and family and usually 'find a space for it'.  Gardens are continually evolving and are not static - that's they joy of them.  If one thing fails, why did it fail?  Do I try again or try something different?

I'll certainly be watching the rest of the programmes.

Really like the new Moty programme.  I like the fact that the gardeners create their own garden from their own designs but with the support of an expert.  They must learn a tremendous amount along the way and experience real highs and lows.  I think the fact that they have been involved in the creation of the garden rather than just walked  in and seen it all done will make them love the garden even more.  I must say Monty isn't scared of getting his hands dirty.

I'm really enjoying it too.  Monty is not one who's known for looking dapper so he's always ready and willing to roll his sleeves up.  He only advises, not dictates and is in touch with the people he's helping.  Great programme and I hope the format carries on next year. (I was going to say repeated next year - but it will beimage)

  • I have enjoyed all the episodes so far but I have to admit that tonight's with the 'model village' just annoyed me ...

Great programme. We really like it, but to watch 2 ""lecturers"" rip the roots off a plant and wonder if its going to die was awful. It does explain though, why students who supposedly 'study' for years seem to have very little knowledgeimage

They seemed to have little concept of gardens or plants as living things - just as ways of decorating the space around the house.  That miniature village set up would not survive very long I'm sure.  But as long as they were happy with what they created.  It's horses for courses - we're all different.  image
