  • Wondered if anyone can help me? My salix has been great for up to 5/6 years but without noticing it started to go brown last August and all the leaves were brown.

It's still looking to same, weirdly the leaves haven't dropped off but I can't see new growth either. I'm not sure if it's dead or not and don't know what what do.

When i showed a pic of if late last year to a garden centre he said he felt it hasn't been watered enough when we had a very dry spell but I don't know it will recover
  • Hi @hmoonie85 and welcome to the forum 😊

Your garden centre chap was probably right. I recommend a minimum of two buckets full of water three times a week for Salix in most situations through the spring and summer, whether it rains or not. You cannot overwater a salix. Salix of all types need a great deal of water ... think of weeping willows on a river bank etc ... same family 😊

Try scraping a little of the bark from the trunk of your Salix ... if it’s green underneath then it’s alive and hopefully will recover with improved care this year.

If it’s brown then I’m sorry ... it’s life is over ... 💡 but every dead plant is a new planting opportunity 👍

  • Thanks for the advice, going to scrape some bark of this weekend and see what lies beneath!
  • Just a gentle scrape with your thumbnail should be enough  :)
