Can't see it very clearly but it could possibly be Woolly  aphids

    or maybe Hydrangea scale https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=557

Have a look at the links and see what you think image

The pix turn the right way when you enlarge so it's no problem image

It looks like you've had a bit of previous damage lower down which you've pruned out Badder,  but it seems to be growing well so it can't have damaged it too much, but Verdun grows these and he'll be able to give you much better advice than me. A good mulch after watering will also help prevent it drying out too quickly. You might want to take all the little dead bits off lower down where you've previously pruned though... and maybe do a little weeding round the base.... image

Not sure about the white but I expect it's something quite obvious! image

Dovefromabove...thanks for the links..I think your spot on with the

Hydrangea scale.so now I have to jot up on how to get rid of it.

Fairygirl..I try to stay ontop of the pruning (no comments about a tidy bush) and keep it nice, there are some fresh shoots popping up so there must be some health left in it, I do have some mulch in there somewhere but think I may need more after a tidy up, I was suppose to have weeded today but ive been so busy.thank you for your help

There's always lots to do when you have a garden. We can only do what we can and when time - and weather - allows. I've done virtually nothing all weekend!  image

I knew someone would come up with the answer to your 'white' issue. Dove's post wasn't there when I posted which sometimes happens on here. It'll be easily resolved.

You'll notice I've tactfully ignored your 'pruning' comment Badder....imageimage

  • Hi,

just looking for some advice, I bought a flamingo tree last summer, around about October time the tree lost all his leaves, I thought this was due to the time of the year and this was normal for this tree. Now the spring is coming and there is still no sign of any buds but the branches of the tree are strong and healthy.

Please could someone advise me of how I could rescue this tree.

    Thanks, Claire

Hi Claire, I don't think you can do anything. Either it's alive and will come into leaf or it's dead and it won't.
