Hi I have a flamingo tree only got it late last year and the leaves all turned brown and fell off in the winter and I thought it was dead but I have now noticed new leaves on the trunk but nothing on the thin branches is this normal and should I cut the branches back

  • Hi all, any help would be greatfully appreciated.

i have inherited what I think is a flamingo willow which was a small plant last year.  We didn't do much with it as we were concentrating on inside the house and not outside.  Now we are working on the outside I want to learn how to look after it well.  It's doubled in size now and sprouting branches left right and centre. when is the best time to prune/trim this pretty tree.  also we would like to move it to another part of the garden as we are putting an arbor in its place.  Do I have to wait until autumn to do this?

  • I planted two standard Flamingo Salix last year and they're doing really well.  They've gone crazy, although quite leggy.  Can I reshape them now or should I leave it until next spring?

    Hi everyone :)

I waswondering if anyone would help me with some advice on how to look after two grafted Salix Flamingo trees I just bought.

They've got green leaves with paler white/light green leaves at the ends. Some of the leaves at the ends have a brown tip. What is the best way to take care of this tree and what exactly is pruning and how do I do it (being 19 I've never had to prune a tree before, so I thought I'd ask the experts for some advice ;)

We plan to plant them in two huge pots by the front door of our house. Is there any special care they need in the winter and how often should I water?

    Thanks

  • imageHelp please! New to this site and looking for advice on how to revive my pink flamingo! We moved house this week and brought it with us. It had been doing so well, but not sure it will recover from the shock! leaves are all shrivelled and brown.. Soil is clayish. Been watering a lot to help the rootball but should I do anything else? Many thanks! ?

Hi hopefully someone can help me. I bought a salix alba or it may be salix americana from one of the local gardening stores about 3 months ago. I planted it in a pot and it is outside in the garden. During the hot weather back in May/June(we do get some in Scotland but not much!!!!!) I watered it daily. It is still quite green but I have noticed quite a few brown leaves on it now and it doesn't seem to be as bushy. I've just let the rain do the watering since. Should I keep watering it when the rain comes down? Also can you tell me the best type of feed for it. Is it going to be a flower feed with about 0.2 NPK equally or a veg type feed with about 4/6/8 NPK ratio.

    Thanks in anticipation Desperate Chris

I bought a standard Japanese Willow a couple of months ago. I re-potted it with good compost, topped off the soil/pot with shingle stones to help with watering etc. and it was doing really well and producing new shoots and leaves in abundance!!

Then I went on holiday for 2 weeks but asked a neighbour to water all my pots for me - she obviously didn't do it every day (if at all!) but i've come back to a very poorly tree. The leaves are dry and brown and starting to drop. My first thought was to cut it back and see if it re-shoots. Anyone got any helpful thoughts on saving this beautiful shrub......
