How demoralising Philippa - can't believe the neighbours son didn't help- how thoughtless Hope you can save your plants...
I was moaning to a friend this morning about the damage to my car caused by debris in the wind when he told me some far worse news of his own. Puts my own dramas in perspective - at least someone helped me tape my mirror back on unlike that bloke you had to deal with.
Well saved Daffodilgirl ref the corms - I would have had a nice box of vine weevils in the spring knowing me
Whenever Mike posts like that it's always late and he's wallowing in self pity. Has he been drowning his sorrows? I lost my husband when I was 47 with 4 children at Uni and school. You just have to get on with it and life picks up. Do some voluntary work and think of someone else.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Philippa, I feel so sorry about your garden, if we lived near OH and I would be first there with chain saw and chipper.
Its a horrible feeling when you look out and see so much devastation you dont know which way to turn first.
Please try to make a claim from somewhere, how can a tree have a TPO on it when it has dangerous branches.
When we moved here there was a row of Beech trees, you can tell when they are past their best, so we had them lopped to about 20ft before the devastation occured. They reached the roof and right across the greenhouses.
I really hope you can get it sorted out soon, so sorry.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
If the tree is dangerous and dropping branches the TPO may be lifted. Take plenty of photos, and approach the council. The council will not refuse permission to remove dead and diseased wood even if there is a TPO. We had some taken out of ours. The tree surgeon took copious photos to prove what he had removed needed to be removed. It is the owner of the trees responsibility to keep it maintained and pay for any damage caused, unless they have asked for it to be trimmed/pruned/felled because of disease and the council have refused permission.
Philippa , first I want say , and I'm sure I speak for us all....... don't hold back on the ranting ,we are here for you and had we known and lived near we would be there "mucking in " even bringing cake and bikkies for tea breaks.
Us as gardeners can imagine what it must be like for you, and feel for you and OH very much, and in this freezing weather too .
I don't know much about tpo. but surly whoever is responsible for the tpo is responsible for maintaining the tree and preventing something like this happening. Please speak to your insurance company for advice on claiming from whoevers put there name to the pto...
It annoys me , it's a horrible thing to happen I've read your posts, you love your garden as do we all. If you can claim , add your frozen plants to the claim.
But also philippa at least the damage was only to your garden it could have been much worse. At least you can walk away from this , if you know what I mean.
Helps here if you live near enough
Shout me if your anywhere near Sheffield or if you want any replacement plants or shrub cuttings.in fact Phillips make a list .

KEF ((hugs)) ignore him - he's proved he doesn't want support - he wants attention - he's not worth getting upset about ((hugs))
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
