Yes, I think it would. I did that in a hollow in my garden, used sods of lawn I was digging out to make a flower bed. But they might be dislodged by rotovator.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
You really want to bury the sods if keeping them on the 'lawn'. Perhaps just dig where the path was and use the sods from the lawn there? That would bring the level up a few inches. Laborious work I know but you have quite a few weeks to go before seed sowing time.

Dig a trench, put the sod in upside down and then fill it in. Repeat round the path. You are doing a great job so far. Are you going to sow the whole area or have you marked out in your head at least where the beds are going to go?

I think I am going to attempt to double dig it, after seeing how much turf and soil I have just by taking up the lawn today (5 hrs work) It would seem a waste not to.
Yes I do have a plan in my head, the plan is to seed the whole area and get the lawn established, next year we will be putting a deck area under the tree in the opposite corner we will be having the raised beds in an L shape around the corner.
I have been a bit lazy and naughty today, I started to try and double dig the garden, after about an hour I felt like I was getting nowhere, felt flat and unmotivated. I phoned a gardener and asked if they Rotovate and level gardens, he said they did and could come out and give me a quote, I said I would let him know.
I sat here for an hour had a coffee and some toast, and gave things another go, I did not double dig and use the turve, I decided to start turning over the top and raking it over, I feel a bit bad about not double digging like I said I would and it will cost me more in the long run, here are some pics of how things are looking now.
I still have a long way to go but I am hoping that next weekend I will be able to get the the rest dug and raked. There is still a lot of rubbish in the ground, stones, roots ect ect, so the next few weeks will be getting as much rubbish up as I can before I bring in the topsoil.
Don't think you've any cause to beat yourself up over not double-digging Mr Toast - I think what you've done so far has been quite remarkable - give yourself a pat on the back and a pint or three

That sounds like a great idea

HI, Yes there are some weeds there that have been sprayed but do not seem to be dying, I was going to dig them up when I start the digging.
I just sprayed them again as it is a lovely evening here.
If your offering, I will work for toast and coffee.

As always any advice is welcome.
