I'm itching to get started now! I bought a fifth variety of potato earlier, so I have two lots of first early, one second early and two main crops. I'm going to start chitting tomorrow image i have also got a small list of what I can get sown now too - more broad beans and peas under cloches and indoors I'm gonna get some sprouts, cabbage, beetroot and carrots under cover. I'm actually going to do successional sowing this year too image

Hi everyone, lots of busy bees on here, nice to hear what you all been up to. Welcome Mitch and congrats on getting your allotment....sounds like a good size!

Fruitcake, can't wait to see your YouTube moments! I would be happy to hear anything to be honest, as being a bit of a novice it's good to hear and see what everyone does.

Roy, your plot looks amazing and soooooo tidyimage, love to see how you've got all your compost stacked up lol, just ready to get going eh?

Well our greenhouse base is now done, greenhouse is on order, so just waiting for the seed sowing time to arrive image..... Weather permitting we are hoping to get the paths done over the next couple of weekends.

    happy pottering everyone!

Gg I've 1st and 2nd earlies...Arron Pilott, Pentland Javelin, Wilja and Maris Peer. Red Duke of York are nice but not seen any locally yet.

Can't wait to start sowing but am going to try and wait till March for veg as later sowings usually catch up...Chillies and aubergines may get sown at the end of Feb  thoughimage...

Succession planting sounds like a good plan fruitcake..this year I was going to mark on a calender when veg is sown and when to sow next batch, possibly every four weeks.

Crop rotation is on the agenda too, can't decide whether to do a 3 or 4 year plan.

Nice to read what everyone has been up to- on the gardening front its been a quiet week for me but pretty hectic otherwise.

Still waiting for my delivery from 'Parkers' ordered pots Charlotte, peach, pear, and desert grapes never grown any of these before so quiet excited. Not growing too many pots as got blight last yr going to try bag method as well and then compare the results. Did see my lottie neighbour spaying a milky stuff on her main crop pots luckily she didn't get blight, forgotten the name of the stuff anyone know what's its called?

Really going to try hard to wait to sow later rather than earlier then hopefully the slugs wont be tempted by the juicy tender plants!! Honestly it was so disheartening to find rows of lettuce disappear over night despite taking the usual measure.

Fruitcake- anything you do on u tube would be good to watch, pruning would be great if you have a chance as I'm always never sure if I'm doing it right.

Roy I don't have any particular supplier, I just read, lots! We haven't seen so much as a single snowflake this year so the soil is still relatively warm, if not a bit too wet. Well that's nothing a cloche can't help with.

Anything that I'm not sowing directly will be started off in a heated propagators before going on a windowsill, then into a cold frame or into the greenhouse

weyplotter I bought some of that milky stuff last year- i had to add it to water to make a milky blue spray and is called Bordeaux mixture image

I have been helping volunteering to tidy up Millers pond park and found a golf ball, that is a few I have now so maybe I will add a crazy golf course to my allotment when I get it

Roy that is it wildlife on your plot

Thanks Zoomer44 I see B&Q got you with buying module trays but a least it is some thing useful, thanks for the spud info

I use Bordeaux for my peach tree to stop it getting peach leave curl

  • Morning everyone

Bordeaux that's the stuff I need to get some soon. GG is your peach tree in a pot? and is it difficult to grow? I'm undecided whether to put it in the orchard that I'm creating or garden. Lovely to clear up park and get into the community spirit, are you getting the plot in feb?

Lol got last lot of manure on fri, still sitting in the boot sure nobody will want to sit in the car now! going to plot to cover the last bed. Now that I've got to know the stable girls I'll miss going there, they have lovely horse.

I assume you all know that you can get module trays and pots free from garden centres?

They usually have a pile of them outside or just inside the exit doorways. I usually get mine that way but sometimes it can be quite hit amd miss. I also bought bags full from wilkinsons at the end of last years season when they were selling it all of at 20p image

Weyplotter peach tree in the ground, not too hard to grow, if you need to do pruning do it in summer,  I have had 1 peach this last year and one year before that so far but extremely tasty compared to shop brought ones, expecting more this year as peaches come from wood developed the year before

I also have a small one year old peach tree brought and planted last year which they say can take a few years to get peaches and it is still really small needs to grow bigger yet, the other one was a 2 year old and took a year after planting to get a fruit

Peach trees do have nice pink blossom  I will go and take a photo and add for you

Not sure when I am getting the plot - don't know if I should email the council to see how many on the list and where/ what number I am - on the website you only get it saying 3 Months -  what do you lot think

Still got lots to do in the garden

Fruitcake I have too many pots mainly from buying plants even though I want some strong module trays so last a long time, I have had some free from a nursery after they planted up their plug plants that they brought in and don't use the trays so I asked and got them   but is nice to buy them then they are nice and clean for the start of the year
