I've received my order from Kings, can't remember what I ordered now, but the association have hidden them on my plot to be collected tomorrow so I'll know soon enough.
I did order asparagus crowns but they won't arrive until April 2016, ample time to prepare their bed.
I'm hoping to go to the plot tomorrow to cover more ground with muck before the frost arrives but think I may have missed the boat, the temps here have dropped and we are expecting frost again. I had to scrape ice off my car window last night before coming home!
Been up to Carlisle today on the train and as we went past Penrith there looked to be snow on the hills...me thinks we are in for a cold winter...
Went to the allotment today very windy out and cold had to tie stuff down again, manage to get some more digging done and cleared away some rubbish also went had a nose in the shop first, harvested some Jerusalem artichokes had with dinner not had them before they tasted ok
Did have a base layer top on today did wonders my hands and feet did get bit cold could not feel the end of my fingers at one point so called it a day was late anyway
Spent a couple of hrs on the plot digging over a bed and doing a general tidy up. Dug up some docks before the roots started on their journey to Australia and checked out the broad beans. Some of their tips had gone black, looks like the frost has got to them, so not hopeful they will last till the spring but on a happy note, have lots of seeds left to sow next yr.
Due to all the rain the ground was soft so digging was ever so easy and the narrow beds meant no walking on the soil. On the bigger square beds I've placed flag stones to walk on.
Yaho...the weeds aren't growing either so cleared ground stays clear, just need to cover it with muck now before frost freezes the ground.
Collected my kings seeds, that was like discovering buried teasure as I'd forgotten what had been ordered...I must get out more...
Not sure what to do with the globe artichokes. I was going to cut them back to ground level and cover the area with muck but do you leave then to die back like rubarb before covering with muck
Hello all had to search for the thread it had gone out of my followed threads
Been to the allotment done some more digging and had a great find a yellow golf ball, I have found a few golf balls and think a little area for a putting green could be good
Managed to the bonfire going a small bit but not much
The frost has got the plants in garden and some at allotment, don't know if cape gooseberry can be picked and ripened at home
Gg it's not been in my followed threads for a while, thought it was my computer playing up...I started getting notifications from GW again though on my e-mails...they had stopped for a while...I'm going to ask santa for a new one, can't decide whether to get a laptop or an ipad...
GWRS - going to a football match is on my 'things to do before...' list. Never been to one but a friend is an avid Man City fan...has a season ticket...sadly she is over 27 and unlikely to get over this...but says I must go to a football match, even if it is a local match. In my youth I supported Liverpool.
Our local team are so bad, presumably to drum up support, allow children to go free. We will start there but have been past PNE/ Blackburn on match days and seen concerts at Man U ground. I'd like to see a match at one of the big grounds....
Just catching up on today not seen the posts GWRS good you had a fire dahlias gone black here too
Zoomer what seeds did you get...... I put on 2 pairs of socks, know what you mean about roots they do go far down then I also find lots of rubbish did find a large black cloth ripped under ground but lots of it today - don't know about the artichoke
my broad beans have black bits on the leaves I have them in the pots sitting in the garden still waiting to be planted not done them at this time of year before
Not sure if the weeds have stopped growing here yet
