FG - great pics! you're a much better skimmer than me. It is just so lovely up there (very deep sigh).

One of our most beautiful experiences in Scotland was driving in the sunshine to a holiday cottage in January when it had been really cold but dry for several days. There were inches of frost over all the vegetation just sparkling away like crystals in the sunlight & we drove through tunnels and avenues of it.

A really magical winter wonderland. I feel soooo homesick for somewhere often visited but never lived in. It is my spiritual home.

No I don't live near Pen Y Fan - other side of the country in Suffolk. Going to the Brecons for a little break hoping to see some nice autumnal colours image

I got very emotional taking the girls there T'bird.  I scattered some of my parents ashes there about six years ago, after Dad died. They have that view forever. image

Pen Y Fan looks a nice hill - perhaps I could travel down and do it as a different challenge image

Would be good if your knees are ok and you manage it, but here's hoping you get good weather for views anyway. The landscape is stunning in Britain when you get those 'proper' seasons. I know that frozen vegetation you describe only too well. Layers of frost on frost over days or weeks - incredibly beautiful. image

Might go to Heligan if dry and Eden Project if wet.

Pine Lodge Pinetum is nice as well, you can get a nice lunch. You can get nice lunch in both other places also.

my daughter lives a stones throw from there so we go often, we all have free tickets, Eden is very expensive If you have to pay, I think it's about 25.00 each now. Overpriced I think.

Morning all. Lovely photos and chats. Very sunny here this morning. Nothing much planned today, but tomorrow, since we have been advised that the electricity will be off all day for some maintenance work somewhere in the village, we've decided to go to Canberra for the day. Will visit our daughter who we havent seen since July, when she celebrated her 50th birthday. So, should be a full day out. Canberra is about 1.5 hours drive away. Might visit some shops. I've got my eye out for a Dyson vacuum cleaner which has a long handle and should be just the job for getting under the bed etc. instead of having to crawl around with my usual one.

Out son and his 2 cats are planning to visit on the weekend, so that'll complete the family get together for a change.  The electricity company have sent another letter saying they are going to turn the power off again next Thursday for the day, so I don't know what we'll plan for that. It's so irritating trying not to open the fridge and having to fill the thermos flasks first thing in the morning so that we can make cups of tea. And of course, I won't be able to use my iPad! What a disaster that would be.

Anyway, that's me for now. Have a good one everyone when you wake up.image

Morning Pat. My sister in law lives in Canberra so please give her a wave when you drive past tomorrow.

It's a pain when the electric is off isn't it? We're all electric here (except for the log burner) but we have a couple of gas camping stoves for the power cuts which (while not frequent) are not an uncommon occurence out here in the sticks. I can do without most things - but not my pots of tea
