Well we're up early because son and his cats wanted to get away early. The house seems a bit empty now - just Hubby and I, and HRH hasn't emerged yet.
on the sad side, for those of you who know Victoria, there is a bushfire around the Lorne area - 53 homes lost so far amd many more at risk. So sad, and reminiscent for me of the cyclone on Christmas Day in Darwin in 1974. Another Christmas Day tragedy for people. Wonder about your Cumbria flooding - haven't heard anything here. Typical!
Hello Jo. I hope we're ok where we are, but you can never tell, even though we've done what we can by having lots of Eucalyptus trees removed from around the house area. The trouble is that if you live in the bush, there are no guarantees. Fires can move at incredible speed and the flames have been known to jump from one hill to another if there's enough wind and heat. The main thing is to know where to go if the area is threatened. There are no fires around here at the moment.
We're planning a normal quiet day today. I've got the barley out on the counter as a reminder that I'm going to try the risotto tonight. We've got some nice fresh asparagus that'll go well with it. Not mushrooms - I've got to be careful with MSG and they are very high in it. My home grown garlic will also be good.
It's morning! Is everyone having a sleep in after yesterdays partying?
just to keep you informed (sorry its a sad subject, but some might be interested) the latest news about the fires near Lorne is 116 homes lost . Makes me feel very sad. I've no news about your floods.
Sorry to hear about the bushfires The BBC news website is covering the Australian fire situation. In the Northwest of the UK the army have been brought in and are helping prepare for the next expected deluge - erecting metal flood barriers and filling sandbags etc. Also evacuating the vulnerable.
We had a lovely day yesterday - our grilled lobsters were wonderful We had some lovely presents and had a lovely walk across the marshes. Not sure what the plans are for today. Think the forecast is for wet here too, so don't suppose we'll get outside ... we might just have to eat pork pie, cheese and chocolate ... and watch Aiden Turner on the telly
